I don't know, I never really talk about the fact that I like post rock so I don't know what other people think of it...maybe you like it and would like to have a thread to discuss it? Or perhaps you said what the gently caress is post rock and decided to click this thread. Mayby yeo think its gay and would like to post your opinion on the matte. Whatever the case may be, you may have some links and are doing the thread posting/making GBS threads at your leisure. Thank you and G-d bless.

that's correct forums user poopzilla; post rock is the use of rock instruments for non-rock purposes. I don't know if hipsters ever caught on to this stuff but I have heard people talk poo poo about godspeed you black emperor...I think they have vocals though so basically not post rock.

to counter my point, here's Ef - Hello Scotland

holy poo poo they're coming to town...post rock shows in the US seem to happen once every 4 years per band. I saw Mono two years ago and there were like 45 people there so maybe that's why

I've never heard that definition of post-rock before. It always seemed to be a spiritual continuation of prog-rock to me. Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the usual bands people discuss in the genre like mogwai or godspeed. I think those types of bands tend to produce albums full of good ideas that didn't quite combine into good songs.

I quite like Tortoise though.

I like post rock. It's basically prog rock without the capes and flower costumes. Still good stuff though.

I like Explosions in the Sky, This Will Destroy You, Lymbyc Systym (maybe not considered post rock but close imo), The American Dollar, Bitcrush, and Limp (not the American band). Well there's my serious post (rock haha) for this thread

My favorite Mogwai song:

Number two:

Mogwai is the best overall punk rock band, I saw them live one time and they blew out my ear but I got better. The show I saw happened to be the one they filmed for this release: http://www.amazon.com/Special-Moves-CD-DVD-Mogwai/dp/B003VQO4VQ

I saw GYBE live twice. Once in around 2001 and once in around 2013 (under Rusted Satellites moniker). At the 2001 show they played a film as a backdrop of a Montreal street where there was a crossing guard waiting around, but the weather was really really awful and there were no people needing to cross the street. He paced around and got visibly more and more bored and anxious and as the song built to its usual GYBE crescendo the crossing guard walked out into the street and stopped traffic for no reason. It was great I liked the concert a lot.

I have told this story, also for no reason, to a few women I've known sometime after I've put my wiener in them, so now it's like I've hosed you too, GBS.

The 2013 show was kinda forgettable apart from "we want punks in the palace" line of Blind blind blind song (2:42 here), which was neat.

Tortoise is the most overlooked postrock band that is also definitely a blueblood postrock band and has a million releases &c. They are overlooked because they can be a little jazzy.

This is my favorite Tortoise song, it's real good, it's probably the best overall postrock song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLCgcp83Tfg

Here is another Tortoise song that I like, it's from real early in their career / the whole postrock thing so nobody really knows what they're doing, but it's nice and pleasant

that's true about mogwai, apart from their first album which is non-stop heaters. all their subsequent albums, even though they're not bad at times, are kind of disappointing after that debut
