BAD PREDICTIONS INBOUND EASTERN CONFERENCE Atlantic 1. Tampa Bay - Good team that mostly stayed static in the off-season. I can't think of a single thing they're bad at so they go top. 2. Boston - Despite a weird summer I expect a rebound year. Basically everyone on their roster underperformed last season. 3. Montreal - Price won't repeat last year and the Habs have a lot of issues otherwise. -------------------- 4. Ottawa (WC2) - Hammond plays less than 20 games (bold I know). 5. Florida - Improving, but I still think they're a year or two away. 6. Detroit - An injury plagued year from their stars means the streak ends. Pulkkinen starts out on fire but fades out. 7. Buffalo - I like all their moves they made this summer, but they have a long way to go. Eichel has less than 50pts. 8. Toronto - They suck all year and end up picking 2nd. Metropolitan 1. NY Rangers - Still the class of the East, but no President's trophy this year. 2. Pittsburgh - Like all their changes, they go on a good run this year but the finals elude them again. 3. Washington - I like the additions they made up front to take some pressure off Ovie who barely cracks 40. -------------------- 4. NY Islanders (WC1) - Snow makes a big play for Schneider at the deadline. 5. Philadelphia - Another season treading water in Philly. 6. Columbus - Fewer injuries, similar season. 7. Carolina - Are a professional hockey club based in Raleigh, NC 8. New Jersey - The rebuild begins in earnest as the Devils go hardcore firesale at the deadline. WESTERN CONFERENCE Central 1. St. Louis - Another great regular season resulting in no cup, but a conference finals appearance for the first time in a generation. 2. Minnesota - Suter wins the Norris, people continue to ignore the Wild because they're dull. 3. Chicago - A slow start but a strong finish. Kane doesn't miss a second of NHL action proving once again that democracy simply doesn't work. -------------------- 4. Dallas (WC1) - Lehtonen continues to be bad, the rest of the team continues to be good. 5. Winnipeg (WC2) - They're getting ready to take over the league, Ehlers is a bit of a no show. 6. Nashville - Yeah I dunno, they'll probably do well but I just don't see them repeating last year. 7. Colorado - Last year was tough and they'll rebound, but they're still in the toughest division in hockey without a real defensive core to speak of. Pacific 1. Anaheim - Good, probably not as good as last year but still cakewalk to the top of the NHL's cupcake division. 2. Los Angeles - Really good, they'll be back in the cup finals proving that any and all divine entities have it out out for me. 3. San Jose - They're in danger of missing and will regret giving up that first round pick. Really it's a toss up between them and the Flames and I'll give them the edge on possession stats and general experience. -------------------- 4. Calgary - Sophomore slumps from some key players combined with a general overhype means they're the classic slider. 5. Edmonton - McDavid is good, Hall is good, the Nuge is good, their defence is piss and Talbot isn't much better than Scrivens because the Oilers never learn. 6. Vancouver - Really, really ridiculously bad. Benning trades Vrbata and Hamhuis at the deadline but fails to return a single additional first round pick or top prospect. 7. Arizona - Auston Matthews is from Scottsdale, did you guys know that? STANLEY CUP FINALS: Washington Capitals def. LA Kings WCF: LA Kings def. St. Louis Blues ECF: Washington Capitals def. They will still have Orpik playing top pairing minutes which is bad and I am sure they are going to be in another grind-it-out series with Rangers, but they will have some scoring depth finally and I think Kuznetsov and Burakovsky could improve greatly. Also Schmidt-Orlov should be better than Gleason-Green (not because Green is bad but because Gleason was woeful). -It wouldn't surprise me if Ovechkin only scores like 40 goals. The power play won't be as good because Green is gone, and Ovechkin doesn't dominate even strength like he does the PP. But he'll still lead the league in goals because no one else can score a lot either except for Stamkos. -Surprise team will be Florida because they actually have good underlying stats and it seems like they are finally getting some skilled forwards as well. -Philly will sneak into the playoffs too because they seem to be getting a little better on the blue line and Mason will be decent this season (not nearly as good as last season) -Pittsburgh will have a season of moderate to good health -Dallas will comfortably make the playoffs because they will not have the worst goaltending in the league again -Vancouver is going to be bad as everyone here expects -Good god the Pacific division is terrible Mind_Taker fucked around with this message at 16:25 on Sep 15, 2015 |

Picking Dallas as your most improved by points in the West seems... odd? They finished last season with 92 points, 7 away form the second WC slot and only 10 away from the #3 spot (where you have them now). The Central is crazy.

I could see Dallas finishing anywhere from 2nd to 5th. Young defense, a Kari bounceback, Niemi being any better, all huge question marks. Still, I think both wild cards go to the Central.

Kinda surprised at most of the scoring predictions for McEichel. In a league where MacKinnon and J-Hock topped sixty points...yeah, Edmonton and Buffalo have weaker supporting casts, but it still feels like they'll both be 60p+ players.

Gaudreau was 21/22 when he did it so he's not the best comparison. MacKinnon is probably closer, but top line scoring has gone down pretty severely the last couple years and neither team has the best supporting cast. I think McDavid will be 60+ (but not PPG or anything), Eichel is probably more of a 50 point player at this juncture.

ThinkTank posted:Gaudreau was 21/22 when he did it so he's not the best comparison. MacKinnon is probably closer, but top line scoring has gone down pretty severely the last couple years and neither team has the best supporting cast. I think McDavid will be 60+ (but not PPG or anything), Eichel is probably more of a 50 point player at this juncture. Yeah, Gaudreau was older but it's not like he was or is particularly more physically developed or anything. I think both McD and Eichel stand a good chance of hitting 60+, the latter because he seems to have the better supporting cast, though expectations of 60+/50+ are reasonable. But I'm seeing sub-50 predictions for both and they're blowing me away.

I think Eichel could pop off for 70 if he gets the PP TOI but I'm worried ROR will take some from him.

I think Eichel has a good chance to be the best American born player of all time but he ain't gonna be that good just yet. McDavid on the other hand should put up 70+.

Eichel has all the makings of one of the best American players of all time, I don't think anyone disagrees with that. I only said that McDavid was a 60 point player simply because there were only 19 70+ point players in the league last year. I'm not quite ready to say he's as good or better than Crosby (who finished 6th overall in scoring in his rookie year), so I think 60ish is probably reasonable. I said 63 and that would put him at exactly the same level as Schwartz, Palat, Eberle, Forsberg, and Vrbata last year, and tied with MacKinnon and Skinner for the 9th best 18 year old season of all time. McDavid is better than those two so maybe he'll pick up a few more, but Crosby, Hawerchuk, Francis and Yzerman are the only PPG 18 year olds in history. I don't think he's at their level. People saying he'll only get 40 points (barring some sort of long term injury or something) are out to lunch though.

Mcdavid is really good, but he is coming in at the absolute worst time you could join the league as an offensive player. Crosby had the benefit of the 05-6 rule changes. I don't think 18 year old Crosby would even put up 100 points in today's NHL. Not unless he had a tremendous team around him. 60-75ish seems like a good bet for Mcdavid.

Ginette Reno posted:I don't think 18 year old Crosby would even put up 100 points in today's NHL. Almost certainly not. The league averaged 3.08 GPG in 05/06, but just 2.73 last year (88.6% as much). So Crosby's 102 points then is equivalent to 90 today. If you go by where he finished in the overall points leaders (6th), the equivalent last year would've been Backstrom with 78 points. If McDavid is exactly as good as Crosby was in his first year (and I very much doubt he will be), a reasonable expectation would be somewhere between 78 and 90 points. I scaled him back a bit because I just don't see as dynamic a player as Sid. Maybe Paulocast is closest with 72 points, but I'm really not sure how anyone can see him getting less than 50 points.

I think he's faster than 18 year old Sid, but nowhere near as strong on his skates. His deking abilities might be better, though Crosby almost certainly had/has better handeye because I've never seen a hockey player that is better at tipping and corralling pucks than Crosby. 18 yo Sid was also way better in the corners than Mcdavid is. Mcdavid is starting off with better wingers than Sid did. John Tavares is the most dominant junior hockey player that came along after Crosby, and Tavares finished with 54 points in his first year. Mcdavid is at least Tavares good. There's no way he finishes with less than 55-60 points assuming he plays the whole season out. e: Preds: EASTERN CONFERENCE Atlantic 1. Tampa Bay 2. Montreal 3.
