HL3 is never happening, get over it. At this point they have too much to lose from releasing an underwhelming game and the amount of hype idiot nerds have assigned to it all but guarantees it won't hit the mark they are expecting. It'll blemish their brand either way and Steam is where the money is anyway.

Fun fact: Arkane Studios (creators of Dishonored) were given the license to create Half Life 2 Episode 4. This was back when Valve was certain that their episodic content format was going to work. http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Half-Life_2:_Episode_Four Anyways, we all know that that didn't go through. Ironically enough, Half Life 2's art director would later leave Valve and become the visual director for Arkane's Dishonored. What I'm trying to say is, that there's a precedent for a third party dev getting the Half Life license.

Is there a story on how they dropped the ball so hard with episodic content on HL2? Like I absolutely understand why they haven't made 3, I recall reading that gabe post on not wanting to be part of that call of duty/madden yearly release with minor changes culture but episodic content for a game is basically just developer made additional campaigns for the same game, no one would care if the next chapter of half life 2 was the same kind of stuff just with fresh puzzles and such, I'm pretty sure that's almost all of what people wanted.

HL2 and the episodes had great atmosphere, nice sound design, memorable enemies and locations, great challenge, and a convincing dystopian setting. It is still retarded as one of the best games of all time, and there will be a huge amount of sales due to hype. Episode 2 is a blast to play through. It's just a good fuckin FPS gayme.
