The one where there was this convicted, did his time, trying to make a new life guy (pedophile or kiddie porn guy I think), and they thought he was doing the current crime so they harassed him and outed him at work and to his girlfriend and he lost his job and his girlfriend dumped him. And it turned out it wasn't him at all he was just a dude who had nothing to do with the case and they ruined his life. I think he killed himself. They probably joked about it. It's actually the most accurate look at real police ever, just shown through the lens of ridiculous cases.

There was another episode like that where they thought a guy who just got out raped a girl so Stabler went undercover as a paroled pedophile and basically forced the guy to rape again. He hung out with him all the time talking about rape, bought the guy a rape van and they even tried to set him up to kidnap a young looking female cop. Then they acted all surprised when the guy kidnaps some girl and tries to rape her. There was also an episode where Stabler went to Europe to catch a guy and when they caught him Stabler was all "US laws don't apply, I'm going to beat the poo poo out of you" and he did. And nobody acted like what he did was wrong.

there was the one where they opened on a pot dealing cancer patient who had been murdered and raped. their investigation lead them to two kids; one a fat timid kid and the other who was an obvious sociopath who committed the murder and rape. They ended up convicting the fat kid because the sociopath kid was 12 and had to go to family court. there's also the one with brittney snow where she falsely accused two guys of rape and ran over a little girl

IIRC the final showdown had him giving Stabler a "we're not so different, you do this because you kinda like it" speech and the episode ends with Stabler shaken because the guy was kinda right?

Then there's the one where someone had killed this guy's father or something, and at the end the DA chick gathers everyone, cops, the victim's family, etc in a meeting room and dramatically reveals that the girlfriend was caught killing him on tape, so the girlfriend flips out and runs away. Benson and Stabler are like "What the gently caress why didn't you stop her?" and the DA is all smug like "Don't worry I already let security know, she's not getting out the front door." Then they find out she actually ran upstairs to the roof of the building. She's standing on the edge about to jump and the boyfriend tries to talk her down and she grabs him and pulls him off the building with her. The DA chick is just like "Well that sucked."

to be fair to SVU they aren't always portrayed as The Good Guys. the psycho rapist kid one it was established as hella hosed up that fatty was gonna end up with a worse sentence than the kid who actually did everything there was also one where a rapist gets away because spanish cop was overzealous on chasing down the dude, and they couldnt confirm if the gun he pulled out from under a sofa was actually pulled or just lying there/drop gun. audience knows guy is the rapist but final moral speech lawyer stresses that hey, black ppl have rights too muscles like this? posted:There was another episode like that where they thought a guy who just got out raped a girl so Stabler went undercover as a paroled pedophile and basically forced the guy to rape again. The Internal Affairs cop is the WORST at his job. How has he not been fired yet?! He manages to only show up when the detectives acted properly. Remember when Stabler kicked down that sex offender's door and nearly beat him to death barehanded for posting his daughter's school photo online? He got like, a 2 week suspension for that poo poo.

That's American media participating in cop worship, Internal Affairs is always depicted as incompetent at best and always punishing good cops while interfering with investigations.

I mean seriously, you can't bust Stabler for any one of the times he just straight up assaults someone? The episode with Ludacris beating a double murder rap by pointing out all the corruptness and incompetence of EVERY detective in the squad was great TV though. Oh and Detective Loves to Gamble who gets completely cleaned out by her scam artist sister AFTER she tried to set her up for murder. I think she even stole the stove

in one of the episodes with internal affairs the medical examiner in the case of "did stabler gently caress up" was SVU's examiner friend, and benson was allowed to interrupt her autopsy to go "yo, stabler did nothing wrong" without punishment, and then examiner lady was allowed to go to stabler's apartment to personally apologize for literally doing her job, then they spent the night theorycrafting how stabler was innocent so yeah, accurate to irl police

The episode where that low rent biker gang somehow figured out how to "clone" DNA and framed Benson for all those murders. At the end of the episode they were questioning the lab guy who invented the technique and he was saying poo poo like "Welp I guess this is going to forever change police investigation work!!!"* *Note: DNA plot point never referenced ever again after this episode. Ohhhhhhhhh and Cragen waking up in bed next to a dead hooker This show went off the rails QUICK

There was the one with the rapist that followed jennifer love hewitt around and rapes her every once in a while. The detectives follow him around calling him a rapist at parties and hand out flyers that say "this guy is totally a rapist" which like most of the things they do is totally illegal and should have cost them their jobs the episode where martin short is basically a super-villain was great this lady had a blog where she would review episodes and rate how legally accurate they were

He did a variation of the Milgram experiment telling Stabler that he had to shock Benson or he would kill her and it turned out to be fake. Then he blew up the building and escaped while chained. While Stabler and Benson are all "well, I guess he got away, let's just pretend he died." The end.
