(For what it's worth, English isn't my first language. I still have to adjust to the Swedish Chef's voice - I never know when it's supposed to make sense and when it's supposed to be gobbledygook. I grew up with German dubbed Muppets, and there the "Danish Cook" talked mostly in intelligible sentences, albeit with a silly Danish accent.) DurosKlav posted:Well you have a legit excuse! Maybe. German Muppets were strange, at any rate. For some reason we had different voices for the Kermit on the Muppet Show and the reporter Kermit on Sesame Street. Muppet Show Kermit had a much gentler voice... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGTDGRfzpU8 ...while Sesame Street Kermit sounded much closer to the original. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4Zxro30ImU But for the Muppet movies they mainly used the croaky Sesame Street voice. A bit jarring if you're used to the other one. Also, as a bonus, here's the Danish Chef in German: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7qrnxeCN1k

Would this show benefit from a stronger sense of continuity? Take just Fozzie's storylines, for example. He's dating a human woman whose parents don't approve. Plotline over? Or, you could have them see each other in secret the next episode, which cultivates his bad boy image, leading to him stealing/breaking Leno's already-stolen candy dish to impress her. Third episode, when the bad boy stuff fizzles out, he decides he has to be more than a comedian to win her (parents') approval, so he sets off to become a writer. Etc, etc, etc. Right now, he's just too far removed from the other Muppets, where he is, canonically, at his worst. Still love Bobo, though. Never change, bro-ther.

Show's pretty good so far and definitely has some wit, and they're using the characters really well, but it could use a little work. Like, drama between Miss Piggy and her guest star has been a main focus of all three episodes. The only overarching story element seems to be that Kermit and Piggy are split up, and this stuff just isn't interesting enough to carry the episodes. Also something feels a little off and I can't quite explain it - Edit: Actually after thinking about it a bit, I know exactly what it is. They seem to be trying to mimic The Office in every aspect, right down to the subdued, depressing tone. The Muppets can be PG-13 but they need a positive tone and more lively pacing. The tone and pacing of Parks and Recreation seems much more suitable for them... Parks and Rec felt like The Muppets in its late seasons anyway. Gonna assume the show is just finding its voice though and will improve... if it gets a chance. SweetMercifulCrap! fucked around with this message at 19:03 on Oct 12, 2015 |

The fourth episode is pretty much everything I want from this new Muppet show. Drunk Muppets & Karaoke. Excellent. Plus Beaker & Honeydew? Gotta love how they keep screwing with the audience when it comes to this stuff. Sam also cracked me right up. The only weak part was Fozzie's plot resolution (again). I really don't know why they're pushing Fozzie so much. Rolf or even Sam could be more interesting. Are the ratings holding up for the program?

In the old backstory, Kermit, Fozzie, and Gonzo were the BFFs who staked out to get into showbiz. It's weird that out of the three of them, Gonzo is actually being demoted (and the complete retool of his personality, but that's another subject entirely)

Gonzo's current personality works for me. Mainly because I always thought his chicken loving was weird as gently caress.

No, I agree. Fozzie constantly getting his own plot that separates him from everyone else on the show is one of the series' drawbacks and it's weird that they keep going back to it every week.

His whole thing is that he loves making weird avant-garde art. He's the kind of guy who enjoys things that are strange, theatrical, and over the top. In other words he's the kind of guy who would loving hate working as a joke writer on a late night talk show. It's not that he's arrogant or thinks he's better than his co-workers; it's just that this really isn't the kind of art he wants to be making. Everything he does has this subtle depressed hint of "So this is what we're doing now? Seriously? gently caress it, fine, whatever...I've got bills to pay so I might as well roll with it." He dislikes what he's doing, but he's professional so he tries not to be overt about it. Also: I thought Sam's crush on Janis was cute
