I had a friend once who argued a pretty strong case that a benevolent dictator/monarch would be the best system, because assuming total control they have no reason to be influenced by lobbyists/corporations/whatever boogeyman. If they weren't benevolent obviously the system would no longer work but that's not the premise.

I personally lean towards social democracy/anarcho-syndicalism, but this thread isn't about me.

What do you think is the best political system and why?

Can you explain what you mean by that and why? Are you talking about individual state communism or global or...? Not trying to start a flame war just curious what you mean and why you think its the best.

The problem with having a benevolent absolute dictator is that they still won't be aware of all the problems that people are facing in society, and they will have trouble balancing conflicting needs. This problem is solved by making the dictator a computer, who is also omniscient and omni-benevolent.

Unironically constitutional monarchy. The Nordic countries, Netherlands, Japan, i.e. many of the best countries in the world have that. Democracy is great, but it's even better if there's a monarch with a personal stake in the wellbeing of the country, and the power potential to limit the most egregious abuses of capitalism.

Is it really fair to have Japan in that list with, y'know, the whole World War 2 thing?

Unironically, the monarchs in those countries have literally no power in limiting the egregious abuses and in fact usually exemplify and participate in it with their outrageous amounts of inherited money, personal property and investments. Those countries are great because of their democratic socialism, as are non-monarchical democratic socialist countries like Finland, Iceland, Ireland, etc.

Or most of the others with the whole colonialism thing. Queen Victoria didn't limit the abuses of the British Empire but ended up symbolizing it at its horrific height even if she personally directed few things, and then we have people like Leopold II...

Ah. A hypothetical one in a hypothetical world where what we're able to do is different. This is of course the best.

In the practical world, I'd say rank-voting pluralism.

The best political system is the one where you're in control.

The worst are the ones where you're not in control.

also here's a stupid take

A benevolent dictatorship that supports all of my opinions and worldviews.

The worst is a malevolent dictatorship that does not support all of my opinions and worldviews.

Theoretically the ideal is that everyone is nice to each other and no government is needed.

Once you step into the real world the only thing that matters is finding the government which works the best.

Society needs governance, it's a technological organism, the true pure form of libertarian ideology is having a government so completely benevolent you don't care that it exists.

The libertarian political system is "No, gently caress you, I got mine, DAD!"
