The media wants Biden to run so bad it's hard to separate out their own wishful thinking from objective analysis. I'd still like to see the article if you have a link handy, though.

Mrs. Clinton’s team has been adamant that they are not behind efforts to draw negative attention to Mr. Biden, or to do anything to pressure him.

Oh, right. That's been a pretty longstanding thing.

The thing is... does nobody remember that Biden already ran for the presidency a few times? Recently? And people weren't crazy about it? He's a good VP because he knows how to get around from his decades in the Senate and is pretty genial, but he's got skeletons up the wazoo and his policy positions didn't grab people. It's just... we need another warm body in this thing! Horse race horse race horse race!

And the man's doing a heck of a job at it too.
He beat Obama's individual donation record and has virtual fundraising parity with Hillary; for now.

Obama, excluding donors that donated more than 200 in a single contribution forcing their disclosure, still averaged ~60 bucks a donation.

Bernie is averaging 30.

Other than NH, he's losing by 30ish points in the polls that have any relevance (the ones that don't poll Biden.) In North Carolina he is losing to a guy who isn't even running (again, Biden.)

He has basically no party support (in SHARP contrast to Obama.)

I mean, he's doing a heck of a job in that people talk about him, but not in the sense that he's going to win.

More gubernatorial campaign info from the Herald Leader.

They did a regional breakdown of their most recent poll.

Bevin leading in rural parts of the state, including much of coal country. This suggests that Republican attempts to tie Conway to OBAMA'S WAR ON COAL may be succeeding with many voters, despite Conway's extremely cozy relationship with the coal industry.

But the biggest/most surprising takeaway is that Conway is leading in Northern Kentucky. The population in that region is largely comprised of relatively affluent suburbs and exurbs of Cincinnati. These folk are normally Republican voters, but of the socially-liberal, fiscally-gently caress-you variety common to well-off suburbanites. It appears many of them may be willing to flip or stay home, if the Republican candidate is an arch-conservative culture-warrior like Bevin.

Louisville and Lexington can't normally outvote the rest of the state by themselves, but the equation changes if counties like Boone, Kenton and Campbell are actually in play.

It will be interesting if Sanders and Carson both keep up this level of fundraising.

Million donations, not donors. Typically, a significant proportion of donors donate more than once (for example, Bernie supporters scraping together their allowance on a weekly basis) - for Obama it was probably at least half of his donors. And it's more common in small donors for the obvious reason.

Related, the Republican primary polls have been basically consistent for the last week-and-a-half:
Trump leads the pack, Carson's next, Fiorina's place fluctuates between tying with Carson and being with the rest of the (single digit) pack, and then you've got the rest of the high single-digit pack: Jeb! and Cruz, with new addition Rubio.

The next debate cuts off at 3%, and assuming polls stay consistent, those 6 are the only ones above 3%. So say hi to your top 6 Republican candidates: Trump, Carson, Fiorina, Cruz, Jeb!, and Rubio.

The only establishment guys among them are Jeb! and Rubio, and Jeb!, uh...

Jeb!'s got problems. Many, many problems.

So let's see if Rubio can stand up to Trump, or crumble into a sweating, dry-mouthed heap.

Wario Chalmers! WAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
 House Republicans including Chaffetz are pissed McCarthy gave the game away

quote:

Speaking to CNN's Wolf Blitzer on "The Situation Room," Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, said McCarthy should apologize, saying the California Republican made an "absolutely inappropriate statement."

Privately, Republicans were outraged by the remarks, saying the House majority leader had given Democrats unfounded ammunition to argue that the committee's investigation is squarely being driven by politics. Republicans on the committee had tried for months to keep the focus of the inquiry on the administration's handling of the attacks, avoiding getting into the ins and outs of the various aspects on the email stories.

But in one fell swoop, McCarthy undercut their strategy.

"I might have said it differently," Rep. Darrell Issa, R-California, told CNN. "Any ancillary political activity that comes out of it is, in fact, not the goal of the committee and is not what the committee is seeking to do."

Added Rep. Justin Amash of Michigan, "I totally disagree with those comments." Asked if they could jeopardize his bid for speaker, the conservative Amash said: "I think it should be a concern."
