They agree to sleep with all the dirty old men their agency wants them to, and in turn they get more face time and incremental pay raises. B. They don't agree to become a literal whore and receive no more exposure or opportunities until their contract (one year usually) runs out and are cut loose. There have been a ton of suicides of K-Pop stars and actresses, but there is never a note left behind (unless it is screened first). The entertainment companies are thought to bribe the police so that if there is any mention of the poo poo they have to do to become/stay famous in a suicide note, it's destroyed. There have been a few cases where notes were found by friends/relatives before the police arrived, but they always disappear. Now all stars have handlers who will keep tabs on them and have full access to their apartments so that it is easier to make sure this never happens. Anyone who has ever spoken out about this kind of stuff is usually going against a NDA, so they get sued into oblivion or they get smeared/harassed until they finally off themselves. I don't know about China, but Japan is apparently still very much like this. It's basically the life of a "second string" actress in the early decades of hollywood.
