In the year 1986 Hudson Soft put out a cute platforming game; Milon's Secret Castle was unleashed upon the unsuspecting public. It some how managed to sell 750,000 copies in Japan (or so the American box art claims), despite being fairly obtuse and hard to control for an early NES game. Hudson Soft decide to ride this hype train by releasing a sequel 10 years later for the Super Famicom! DoReMi Fantasy: Milon no DokiDoki Daibouken was released exclusively in Japan in 1996, only making it to America on the Wii's Virtual Console. The game takes the base of Milon's Secret Castle (a young boy named Milon uses bubbles to break blocks and save a music themed land) and turns into a fun and cute platformer. The game recieved three sequels over the Super Famicom's Broadcast Satellite system (however, I won't be playing those because I can find no trace of them other than Wikipedia saying they exist). The Fairy Alis was kidnapped by the evil mage Amon! It's up to Milon to fight him and to save Alis. However this will prove difficult, considering that Amon can only be defeated by using five legendary instruments. To make matters worse, Amon's minions have stolen and cursed all five instruments! It's up to Milon to find the instruments, uncurse them, defeat Amon, and save Alis! Good luck Milon! You're a cymbal of all that's good in the world! You're gonna beat Amon like a drum! ... Sorry I didn't mean to toot your own horn. Balloon Gum Saves you from falling once. Fluffy Shoes Hold the jump button in midair to fall softly. Multi-Shot Boost Blow multiple bubbles, 3 Max. Range Boost You can shoot bubbles further. Maze Key You an open the door of the maze. Flute Let's you push certain blocks. Accordion You can swim under water. Trumpet Shoot a twinkle to make a block. Ocarina You can make musical ladders. Harp You can seal Amon's spirit. TheJayOfSpade fucked around with this message at 21:16 on Mar 10, 2016 |

I don't know anything about a secret castle, but this do-re-mi fantasy looks like a good time! It's got a really charming style and lots of neat stuff going on in the background, plus the bubble mechanic seems pretty cool.

This is a cute game; makes me wonder what the first game is like. And are you sure "Alis" is pronounced that way and not like "Alice"?

I don't remember who told me this, but someone said that cheesecake is actually a type of custard pie. Anyway, one of my favorite kinds of cake is babka.

My familiarity with many of Hudson's characters only comes from playing way, way, way too much Saturn Bomberman multiplayer. But hot drat this is cute as hell. Milon's Secret Castle was terrible though.

This game is really cute. It's nice to see a classic platformer again. What's not nice is how I crave sweets after every episode in this world.

I think the boss referenced a story where a guy accidentally dropped his axe in a pond and a spirit asked him if he dropped a gold axe or a silver axe. The guy answered that neither was the axe he dropped and was rewarded with all three.

Chorps and I wrap up the final episode of this DoRayMi Fantasy by discussing the great musician of out time: Hatsune Miku. Thank you everyone who watched this LP, I learned a lot making it.
