Pitdragon posted:ITS NOT LIKE THE MATRIX AT ALL OP!!! the robots in the matrix were stupid, there was no need to keep people sentient if all they required was batteries. i'm talking electrodes right in your pleasure center, or maybe crazy future drugs or something, so that the only thing you ever experience again is absolute ecstasy, detached from all other sensations and experiences. That's the whole point dude don't be so dense. The entire system works because of IDEOLOGY, just like in real life. They give some explanation for this in the movie about people not accepting utopia but the real reason is ideology is required for us to accept our bondage, for even in the dream world of the matrix, we must sccept and participate in our unfreedom. What made the matrix "false reality" efficacious was that the illusion it produced carried within it the reality: in the matrix we are slaves to capitalism and alienated from our being, the "real world" was simply the reality of the current system without the trimmings. For humanity to be properly lied to and deluded, it required an illusion that told us the truth of our situation. This is post-modern ideology par excellence: the brutal truth presented to us so boldly that we cannot help but take it for a comforting illusion.

The point I got from the video is that robots can already replace ENOUGH jobs RIGHT NOW, to put us over the great depression. Give it 10 years and a fair amount of jobs will be replaced (enough to hurt, not enough for mass riots!?!?!?!) Maybe we'll get Mandatory Income, just enough to keep us hungry and fighting in the domes for rich folk's amusement.

The other thing is that you assign all entities in the case numbers, so things like race, class, physical appearance, etc. even come up. So, it's smart enough to process evidence and render a verdict, but not smart enough to determine prejudices and biases. And after every case concludes, it just wipes or offloads it's case memory so it's a blank slate for the next case.
