I will honestly feel bad for you if my half assed already-forgotten burn spurred you to buy that festering shitpile, because I didn't really give a crap and would have written a lot more angry words if I actually cared that much. Hopefully that was just an excuse to start a thread and you were already considering buying this shitbox, I don't need this kind of thing on my conscience  How hard is it to slap a junkyard 4T65 in there? I looked in one of those doorstop garbagecans at the yard a few weeks ago and it looked cramped and annoying to work on.

Every time some enterprising nerd starts working on cracking it, they realize they can: 1. Give it away free and get bitched at when it doesn't work, bitched at when an idiot misuses it and bricks their crapcan, bitched at when it doesn't have all of the features of the OEM one... Or 2. Make megabucks selling the fruits of their labor to the masses. This is why tunes still cost money, except for the ones that have been around long enough that the tuner software inner workings have been figured out or leaked.

It's because nothing beats a mechanical fan for shear volume of air moved and efficiency (no matter what, you can't make both an alternator and a fan motor 100% efficient, while a shaft running from the engine to the fan makes a pretty close approximation) but you need to be able to modulate the fan's output somehow or you'll lose all that efficiency when you don't need to be moving that much air. Cool idea, but needed some more work obviously. On the other hand, a new one is $110 on rockauto, which isn't really the end of the world every couple hundred miles, if they actually last.

The Colorados had the Aisin AX15 behind the 4 or 5 cylinder Atlas (I forget which) and the same bellhousing, input shaft, and input bearing retainer etc can be attached to any similar transmission. I've actually got a 2wd Colorado's Atlas-pattern AX15 stashed under a floor mat in the very back of one of my local junkyards just in case I decide I want to swap an Atlas into a jeep or something. They are really cool engines.

Deer are squishier than main bearings, so I doubt the engine's got any serious damage from a light smack on the harmonic balancer. Long as the motor mounts aren't trashed and the water pump took most of the force through the fan and clutch, I wouldn't worry about the block/crank themselves. The chassis and whole cooling+ac system being trashed though? That's a total IMO.

The IFS I know nothing about.
