Air power, super effective infantry based anti tank weapons and the fact more fighting is being done in and around urban centers as opposed to open fields is making tanks obsolete powered exoskeletons and heavy duty personal armour for infantry will be the next big thing imo, warhammer nerds eat your hearts out

All the new tech is going to be about suppressing your own population, not fighting wars. All that Israeli stink spray and sonic disruption poo poo, all the NSA sigint stuff, non-lethal rounds, CoD-style loadouts for cops. All those royal/dictator Arab armies only exist to gently caress up their own people if they protest , the IDF are just concentration camp guards now, China is almost totally geared to control internal dissent, and that's what America is going to look like soon.

The biggest problem with the Abrams is it's too heavy, and consequently is prone to getting stuck in mud, destroying roads it drives over, being unable to cross lovely bridges, etc. But they're working on making it lighter. So the future is M1A3 Abrams Lite: same flavor as Abrams Classic(tm), half the calories.
