bewbies posted:can a smart baseball person explain how a knuckleballer could be "off"? is it like a mechanical thing? fatigue? position of the moon? Sometimes you just don't have a good " feel" for your pitch and it doesn't knuckle or break as much as you need it to. For knuckleballers this is more an issue because then it basically turns into a lovely changeup that dudes can crush all day. If you don't have any other pitches to fall back on which is often the case for knuckleballers you can get blown up quick. I should say mechanically it could be a combination of a billion things, or he is just having a tough time in the cold gripping the ball. This happens to every pitcher and when it does you need other pitches to fall back on. Popete fucked around with this message at 23:02 on Oct 20, 2015 |

If you want to review plays like that you might as well eliminate tag plays and make everything a force play Well if you pop up and are 10 inches off of the bag you should probably be out

Additionally, the knuckleball isn't affected by the flow being turbulent, but by the flow transitioning to turbulence, which is probably the best example of a "butterfly effect" phenomenon that there is in classical mechanics. It is truly a chaotic pitch in the literal sense of the word.

I wouldn't mind something like treating it like a neighborhood play, as long as you're still over the base while you pop off for a split second you're fine. But that'd have to be a rule change.

Maybe leave the rule alone but make "came off the bag" non-reviewable. If the umpire doesn't see it, its probably something we don't want to overturn anyway.
