https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXWqNU4knMI Welcome to the GDT for UFC Fight Night Dublin, 4 p.m. ET Saturday, Oct. 24 on UFC Fight Pass. This month has been a right terrible one, boyos, that it has. The Great MMA Famine wages on, making writers and poets of us all. It’s been three weeks since we saw a bit of a scrap, but these verdant hills of plenty wasted away before our very Irish eyes as a beautiful prelim card gave way to a $60-in-HD famine. In that time that great English bastard Dana White promised us a top-flight lightweight showdown and a great big fat boyo round as the eye could see, but now it’s time to work the fields and we find our yield black and withered with rot and injury. Now Dana tells us we’re dummies and should ask for refunds. Once we’re after the card, perhaps it’ll all be different. Me granda tells us stories of men his age fighting in Brazil, and two women who can crush tomato cans in their bare hands. But aye, methinks it will be quite some time before we know plenty again. So let’s gather round the table and suck what little nourishment we can out of this first crop in ages. Tell Mary I love her and tell Patrick he can kiss me Irish arse I’ll fight him on me ma’s grave I swear it. Flyweight Paddy “The Hooligan” Holohan vs. Louis “Da Last Samurai” Smolka Ol’ Patrick now finds himself setting a UFC record in the first non-title flyweight main event. Unfortunately it’s because two better, more significant fights than his fell off. As an undefeated Irishman, he achieved great heights when he had no answer for the wrestling of Josh Hill and could not participate in TUF 18. Since then he’s gone 3-1 in the UFC, his only loss being a FotN decision against Chris Kelades. Besides that and his submission win over Josh Sampo, however, his fights have not been particularly noteworthy. He’s still the most noteworthy local guy on the card, so he’s filling the immense vacuum created by Duffy’s post-injury absence. Louis Smolka got a pretty slick KO over Richie Vaculik. He also lost to Chris Cariaso. Take that for whatever you think it’s worth. Lightweight ”Stormin’” Norman Parke vs. Reza “The Aggravated Cat Burglar” Madadi Norman Parke offered to step up and save this card, but the no-good French coward Dustin Poirier ducked him. A man so powerful and full of the power of the irish that the judges covered their eyes when he fought Francisco Trinaldo and Gleison Tibau so they couldn’t see to pick the right winner. A man who is such a banshee Leonardo Santos lost his pants in fright. A man who’s such a gifted submission grappler he has tapped UFC fighters such as Despite being seven years his elder, Reza Madadi is following in Gegard Mousasi’s footsteps of being an Iranian-born Northern European fighter. Madadi also proved himself of great worth on the world’s greatest stage before going to prison for a crime he maintains he did not commit, which means he may well be the most Irish fella on the whole drat card. Welterweight Nicolas “Sharpshooter” Dalby vs. Darren Till Dalby is an undefeated Dane coming off of a split decision win against a Brazilian Create-a-Fighter in a bout I know most people reading this have seen. I defy them to describe it. ’Daniel O’Connell’s Letter Describing Darren Till to Bishop Doyle, 1831’ posted:"No person knows better than you do that the domination of England is the sole and blighting curse of this country. It is the incubus that sits on our energies, stops the pulsation of the nation’s heart and leaves to Ireland not gay vitality but horrid the convulsions of a troubled dream." Flyweight Neil “2Tap” Seery vs. Jon “The Heat” Delos Reyes Neil Seery had to work overtime loading Guinness onto barges at the docks to meet his quota so his boss would let him fight this Saturday. Jon Delos Reyes is from Guam, so that is neat. OTHER poo poo THAT IS AVAILABLE FOR WATCHING BUT I CANNOT FIND IT IN MY HEART TO ENDORSE Fight Pass Early Prelims, 1:15 p.m. ET https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DquA6KyHTos Official Weigh-In, 11 a.m. ET Friday, Oct. 23 http://www.ufc.com/media/fight-night-dublin-official-weigh-in Official MMA Snack Rating: Irish Famine Soup ½ lb beef (cooked and diced) ½ cup pan drippings 5 medium onions (diced) peelings from a turnip (diced also the turnip greens diced) celery tops (minced) 1 carrot (diced, including the carrot top) 1 potato in its jacket (diced) 4 gallons water salt to taste 1/3 cup brown sugar 1. Cook the beef in the fat/drippings. Put in large kettle. Cook the vegetables in the fat/drippings. Put in the kettle. 2. Put most of the water in the kettle. Pour fat/drippings in the kettle. Put skillet back on the stove and get it very hot. Add some water to it, and stir with a fork to get all the fat and cooked on drippings. When pan is cleaned, add the fat and drippings and remaining water to the big kettle. 3. Add the sugar and salt. Cook until flavors are melded together. Best served hot. *** Depending on the size of the family this should last the week. During the Irish Famine, this was a typical recipe to keep from starving. They didn't always have all of the ingredients, so they just did the best that they could.

John Delos Reyes had a fight against Roldan Sangcha-an that is probably the best fight that's ever happened between two no-names no one's heard of both coming off losses. Him against Neil Seery should be great fun. But, yeah, this card is loving terrible.

This is the first card I think I have ever just said "no" to. Like, why would I care about anything on here? Voted 1, not for the OP but for the card.

I'm going to watch the event because Nicolas Dalby is fighting, but yeah, even though this card comes after 3 weeks of no UFC events, it's hard to get excited for.

throwing a purse at a man does make me want to watch the fight, I have to admit. More fighters should throw stuff at their opponents at weigh-ins as a means of taunting, specifically items that encapsulate the worst things they've done while alive.

canada jezus posted:Wait was the other guy a purse snatcher? On May 27, 2013, Madadi was arrested in his adopted country of Sweden for burglary. Swedish tabloid Expressen reported that the fighter and an accomplice broke into a designer handbag store before making off with $150,000 (U.S.) worth of stolen goods. Madadi and the accomplice were apprehended and faced charges of aggravated theft and abetting larceny, according to Swedish authorities. On August 16, 2013 Madadi was found guilty for aggravated burglary and sentenced to 18 months in prison. DC should throw a bag of white powder at Jon Jones before they fight again. That'll sell another 100k PPVs, imo.
