there used to be a musical middle class when travel and housing were cheaper like say the 90s (when music was good) AND you could be a quirky temperamental fuckup and still sell millions of records (all your favorite artists from the 60s/70s/80s/90s! bipolar drug addicts the fuckin lot~) now everything is really expensive (except music which is practically free) so musicians all have day jobs and being a quirky temperamental bipolar junkie fuckup is WAY less socially acceptable than it used to be so come serious networking time when they start handing record deals with serious advertising budgets it's the beige and bland and artless boring business major bro musicians with perfectly coiffed beards and nothing to say because record labels got super conservative after the cd crash and only give big pushes to safe bets like some boring piece of poo poo with a beard and a banjo for instance this is my grand unified theory of why todays music is Bad

The RIAA represents distributors (owners of the means of production) not the artists (proletariat). Death to the RIAA. Pirate anyone who has a distribution deal with them because they are collaborators, the scum of the earth. Full Communism now.

and the days of musicians being considered particularly sexy are long over my friend. who wants to gently caress some scuzzy dropout with stinky balls and no money when they could be getting the dong of a smartly dressed web app developer making six figgies?

Taylor Swift probably doesn't even realize what she is saying because her people told her 'hey you're losing money from this!' and she never bothered to really find out what the deal is. Every artist that really takes 15 minutes to realize 'hey I don't get paid poo poo from the RIAA anyway and all my money comes from shows/merch/ads that sell more when my music is more accessible!' is pro-piracy. Even big names have been releasing their poo poo for free.

There was an interview with one of the rolling stones (jager or richards) and he was like " yea, we just came up at the right time. because before our generation came around no one made any money on record sales. records were solely to promote live shows and thats how you made money. and now its going back to that. we just hit the fuckin lotto timing wise lolololol"

Zombiepop posted:The music industry is doing fine, they make less money but who cares. And lol at piracy, just download spotify and stream u cheap fucks. Piracy works a lot better - you can play any song you want whenever you want on any device you want, there's no ads, there are a lot more songs available than there are on spotify. They're higher quality too if you're a nerd who cares about that. I recommend you check it out. It's not worth it for stuff you're going to listen to once but if you're going to listen to a song/album a second time, pirate it.

Nah dude, I can press a button and find whatever and dont have to hassle with space on my device, membership, seeding, or a media player or poo poo, also it cost almost nothing to get rid of the commercials(and give the artist(industry) some money.) + Apart from spotify, which has like a loooot of music, there are also a lot of other free streamin apps, like soundcloud, datpiff, bandcamp etc.
