This study is stupid because lyrics have historically been stupid, especially in pop music. That "grade level" thing is pretty much bullshit. It basically measures how long and complex the words and sentences are in the work, not how insightful the work is. For example, Of Mice and Men has a grade level of 4.5, while Twilight has a level of 4.9. But there's a reason we all read Of Mice and Men in high school English and not Twilight, and it has nothing to do with the books' "grade levels." Basically our culture's obsession with quantification is making us into lazy thinkers
