nintendo never really got over the good old days when they had the industry by the throat and could blackball retailers for selling super mario bros 3 for 59.00 instead of 59.99

Wrath of the Bitch King posted:The Wii U still uses points, last I checked. My buddy was bitching about how you can't buy exactly enough points for a specific purchase, they designed it specifically to make sure you have some odd leftover amount wasting space. the wii mode of the wii u uses points. the wii u eshop uses regular currency.

The Taint Reaper posted:really at this point the NES and the SNES are just flukes. The Wii outsold both the PS3 and the 360. all of nintendo's portables, save the virtual boy, have been money-printing machines

Paladinus posted:Is it? For this price I can buy a more recent AAA game on a steam sale or just some decent mobile game. Do they sell remakes or just straight up ROMs you can play using their proprietary emulator? depends, the virtual console games on there are just roms in a customized emulator, the "3d classics" are remakes that keep the original graphics but add saves and support the 3d screen.

the dreamcast had the best version of rush 2049 and the star wars pod racer game plus segagaga was hilarious in the sense of "gently caress you guys for not believing in my GENIUS"

Real hurthling! posted:yeah 360 is 720p and it runs good. xbox is 1080 except when its 900 and if you break stealth the AI scripts cause the game to drop to the low 20's fps and the screen to tear if there are a lot of ai's at once. i have tr2013 on my pc and it runs fine most of the time, but lara's hair causes the framerate to dip when it's on screen.

At least Twin Snakes [and uh the original(ish) Metal Gear and Ghost Babel) was a thing when Snake showed up. the closest thing that the N64 got to a final fantasy game with this tech demo that was done on an SGI Onyx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPO7c_XmesU

I just could not finish the game, and I kind of wanted to see the ending but since the story so far is really bland, I don't know why I would want that. what if the real villain... is you. there i just saved you the effort.

my high school had laserdisc players in every classroom for some reason and they were pretty much never used (this was like 2001-2005 so dvd was definitely around by then) i do know a lot of people who are snobs about laserdisc because it's the only way to watch the original versions of star wars (barring like a single out of print dvd release that came out in 2006) also each disc only holds like 30 minutes of video (later ones could hold 60), so to watch a movie you had to flip and change the discs a poo poo ton of time. but yeah in terms of quality it was better than vhs and according to some picture snobs i know, theoretically better than dvd if the dvd had poo poo for encoding (which a lot of the earliest dvds had)
