Hell, he could just auction off the VP position and then resign after the election. That would be fantastic.

In that scenario would the new president be able to pick a VP or would it default to the speaker of the house?

Not really because Ron Paul always polled super, super incredibly horribly and never had a glimmer of a hope to be polling in fuckin third in the nomination game. You see some of the same wackiness, like people acting like internet polls are not completely and utterly worthless, but he Sanders is a much more popular and viable candidate.

It is likely that Sanders will not get the nomination, but I will end up donating a bit to get leftist policy trumpeted and force Clinton to take positions she does not want to. The race already looks vastly different than it otherwise would solely because Sanders is in the race.

nobody actually "supports" hillary, they just know that the media is going to ignore bernie and the democratic caucus is definitely going to ignore bernie so basically nothing short of literal rioting is going to get him a nomination

I feel like about 99% of people saying nobody supports hillary actually do support hillary and will be casting a vote for her come elections in nov 2016 despite not being in a swing state and having no real pressing reason to do so.

I will not vote under any circumstances because I consider the idea of common citizens selecting their government to be degenerate and silly.

but if I were someone who believed in voting, I would accept the reality that supporting hillary is the only pragmatic option for someone who doesn't want a republican in charge. but that's a strange thing to consider, I suppose, since in any hypothetical scenario where I'm someone who believes in voting, I obviously don't give a poo poo about pragmatism.

the point is bernie is not going to be elected. suppose he runs as an independent, then he's going to get the ron paul treatment (except a lot worse because unlike RP sanders actually has support from people who are not fringe crazies); his campaign will be downplayed and derided on spurious grounds by every media outlet anyone listens to. since sanders actually has sensible ideas that will be a little bit harder to do, but I have confidence in the media's ability to drum up a pile of fake experts to talk about how everything he's suggesting is a bad idea.

in the unlikely event that he actually wins the election, the results will be dismissed without consideration and the presidency will be given to the runner-up.
