DayzRP administrator collects 120k~ in donations for his Dayz private server over a 2 year period. Spends half of that on himself and then doesn't pay any taxes. Now Sweden wants a healthy chunk of that money and so hes asking for help and crowdfunding from his players (who have already donated 120k). http://www.dayzrp.com/t-DayZRP-Community-Bailout Gonna be some pretty funny comments in that thread I'm thinking. I'm really glad UOSA's Ultima online server never gave any special treatment to paying users, so they could avoid all this.

quote:I know with this I've let a lot of you down, but I promise you all on everything I care about that I've never used the DayZRP money to buy myself luxurious or stuff or wasted the money on drugs, partying or other stupid things. Sure, I've bought a quite a few Steam games for myself and staff members, but otherwise if I ever used DayZRP funds for any personal expenses it was always rent, invoices, living costs or car that I needed for my job. I know that isn't much of help now, but I just want to come clean with everyone. I did not use donation money to buy myself stuff, except when I did.

The best thing about this is that because the people who gave money received a service in return, in this case colored text and skins, the money didn't count as a donation and was taxable haha

I found this bit most interesting:quote:because the donors on DayZRP receive special ranks and perks due to their donations and received skins in game in the past, the donations cannot be considered gifts, but instead payments for a service that DayZRP provides and therefore should be considered a taxable income - that's how it is defined by the Swedish law. I guess it makes sense in a way, but drat, that's pretty hosed up to find out after the fact. Moon Atari posted:I really need to look into this whole exploiting videogame nerds for easy cash thing.
