God Emperor of Dune was a good book just for the sheer aggressive weirdness of it. But don't read the last 2 books if you value your sanity.

Book's good. The lynch movie is good. Although if I had to change anything, that one scene where Paul falls off some rocks in the desert and it looks waay too much like him flailing his arms in front of a green screen. The ornithopters were a bit crummy looking too. The Sardaukar were kind of silly looking as well. But everything else is solid gold. The miniseries is pretty painful to watch I think. The Harkonnens look like they live in a day spa and wear red kimonos. Everyone just sort of phones in their lines except for Paul who instead whines and whines and whines. And the CGI is horrendous. The first Dune game is of course the greatest piece of art ever conceived.

I was 10 or so when we could finally rent it on VHS. A few years later a much longer version with a lot of extra footage was aired on local television, and it did a much better job of fleshing out the movie. It has a lot of flaws but the way they found ways to visualize things was pretty cool. And I don't care what anyone says, the Weirding Module weapon was loving awesome. The Saudaukar also looked awesome. And I say this in every Dune 84 thread, Francesca Annis is so amazingly hot thru the whole movie. I gave up on the movie when it was like two thrids in and there were still massive narrated plotdumps explaining the world and poo poo. If you have to do that just to make the plot comprehensible, you shouldn't make it into a movie, just do an audiobook.

The spice must flow is the only thing I know about the book or the movie. Does the movie just suffer from good-for-its-time-itis or is it actually bad? I wonder what movies that are hailed as masterpieces now will be terrible in 20 years. Citizen Kane more like Citizen Lame(hehe) or Schindlers List more like Schindlers poo poo.(haha)

It's a tad confusing if you don't know anything about Dune, its quite slow at times and other times its really loving weird. But its has a memorable soundtrack, a good cast who all give solid performances, and the special effects are pretty good. It's probably the best film we could possibly expect to ever get out of the book.
