And if you go to the Strip and kill him before going to Nipton there's a replacement at Nipton too. Also if you don't kill him on the Strip and then meet him at Nipton he says "oh hey, remember me?"

Also I wonder how much Matthew Perry is to blame as a voice actor and how much the fit of him and the material is. Benny's whole ridiculous "ringading" thing might have a part of why Chandler keeps saying every line with an awkward question mark at the end. Definitely needed someone to embrace the silliness and camp a bit more - that kind of thing was absolutely not a part of the Fallout 3 he played and liked. I wonder if he would've done better with a more straightforward character.

This is a good point, he's got a very idiosyncratic way of speaking and it's possible Perry didn't get too much prep time to get into the character.

How in the world is that even possible?

For him to meet you first at the strip THEN be at Nipton and only just then be burning it after all of Vegas is left?

Why is that detail there :psyduck:

The devs made a lot of the main story skippable and had to account for people doing quests in the wrong order. Theres nothing really stopping you from running straight to vegas from the start of the game if you know the safe route through the deathclaw area.

I'm not a huge fan of Honest Hearts, though I do play through it for the sake of completion.

Or going north out of Goodsprings through the cazador nests, past Bonnie Springs and then east past Vault 19 towards Camp McCarran. Except for, you know, the cazadores and that one deathclaw. I didn't know that bit about Vulpes, though.

Best part about the base game, though, is getting the perk that reveals all the landmarks on your map, then just going off to explore random places. It's the only way I knew how to find half the caves/vaults/other dungeon levels.

First time I played I told Vulpes that I was going to wear his head as a hat. Seeing that smug bastard wet his pants was VERY satisfying.

I love terrifying presence.

Also, I rather like Honest Hearts. Has two of my favorite characters.

I said "Way to go!" Then stuffed dynamite in his trousers before running away and into some cover to let ED-E do the work. Probably very stupid, but oh so satisfying.

Pantsmining is a cool and good activity. I've even killed Benny that way once, since (as I've said) explosives count as holdout weapons.

Yeah even though I was severely outmatched I killed him. Took a few reloads, lots of grenades, mines, sniping. But he had to go.

This wasn't the first time I met him, but one of them, I just said "Heck yeah, buddy, well done. Purity of the Legion and all that stuff." Then I proceeded to grab my Varmint Rifle (don't remember if it had a silencer or not, probably did), Stealth kill all the soldiers, dogs and explode his head last.

I just played through Dead Money. What an unfun slog that was. Mazes, toxic clouds, bullet-sponge semi-immortal enemies and useless companions!

And the grand prize waiting in the vault at the end? 37 gold bars that are too heavy to carry out of the Sierra Madre and even if you did, no vendor in the wasteland has enough caps to buy even one. "The hard part is letting go"

I played it for completion's sake because I hadn't before, I don't think I'll bother on any future playthrough.

As much as I love the game and think it's the best in the series, I must confess, I've never been particularly interested in the DLCs. Seems like they got a chillier reception. I did play Old World Blues because it sounded the best, but I don't even remember much of it... And Lonesome Road has that overly flowery Chris Avellone as gently caress nonsense dialogue that sounds deep but is actually hours of meaningless babble...But the LP isn't there yet so I'll shut up for now!

Oh it did make me vilified with the Legion (and gave me some Good Karma!), but no one on the Strip reacted to me exploding the back of the guy's head with a loud 9mm SMG.

I think it might be worth going to the legion just to see what their deal is, since that's something that's not done as much

Hehe....yeah, our good friend Vulpes is one of the very few npcs in this game that has very evil karma. Plenty of folks have evil karma, but there's like only 2 or 3 that have that badge of dishonor.

I actually liked Dead Money. Now that I think about it, the only dlc I was "eh" on was Lonesome Road.

The DLC are my favourite part of the game but every one of them is love or hate for a few good reasons. Fwiw I hated Dead Money my first time through but it's grown on me every time I've replayed.

I don't "hate" lonesome road. It was just the one that didn't click with me in some manner like the other ones did.

Might be because author avatars and forced character background didn't appeal to me.

Still not played Lonesome Road. Other than to grab the immediate shiny to help out in Nevada. Still not really sure what it's about, but high level Fallout DLC has a real tendency to bulletsponge. Will read with interest if an LPer ever gets there.

Dead Money is not without it's rewards, and it's not too much a of a slog, I generally found. But it helps to keep your eye on your objectives, rather than scouring for secrets and loot that honestly isn't that great. Other than a few interesting unique weapons and armour, there's a big reward depending on your skillset and playstyle, but you do have to fufill a condition than is unobvious. Win big at the casino for the regular infusion of chips for the vending machine.

Honest Hearts is lacking in some respects but I do just love the area and the feel. And the extra campfire recipes.

Dead Money is loving amazing... from a story perspective. The gameplay sometimes reinforces it and sometimes interferes with it.

Yeah, I wasn't nuts about Dead Money to play, but the story part is really pretty solid. I didn't care for one part where a successful skill check makes part of a level harder, technically

Lonesome Road was alright, but I apparently missed one skill check or overlooked some optional doo-dad and screwed myself out of the best ending.

Honest Hearts was pretty good overall, though it seemed to drag a little here and there. But you meet interesting people if nothing else.

Old World Blues is my favorite because I love all the characters you run into including your own disembodied brain. And (s)he doesn't like you

If I didn't already have a large backlog of games I'd probably start another playthrough of NV. Your LP is really putting me in the mood for it.

I played Dead Money with a female NCR courier. There's something immensely satisfying about sashaying out of the Sierra Madre with a sackful of gold, wearing a long-dead diva's revealing gown, bidding goodbye to your companions while an insane BoS elder rages down inside the sealed casino vault. The best way to spend the gold bars is to trade them directly with the Gun Runners for their insanely expensive special weapons, then sell those on later.

Old World Blues is funny as gently caress - it's like being in a parody of a sci-fi B-movie - and I eagerly await that part of this LP.

Really? I found that pretty much all of the story is given to you through near-endless NPC dialog trees which, for an interactive medium such as a video game, was pretty dull to click through over and over.

And this might be a general issue with NV but I wish companions would shut the gently caress up when following me. I'm clearly trying to sneak you rear end in a top hat!

"How about I take that pip boy off your arm and wear it" every goddamn 3 seconds. I should have just shot Dog in his stupid face.

The npcs barking every minute or so is incredibly tedious and I don't understand why that was done. OTOH I liked Christine and Elijah's and Dean's storyline so  . Dog I could do without though.

While I'm enjoying the DLC discussion, I think we should cool our jets on the other, non-Honest Hearts DLC quests until we get there.

Either way, while it's not the most varied quest (I think Beyond the Beef has a few more options), the Tops and how that can go down really needs to be near the top of Obsidian's personal best moments for just allowing the player to do whatever they want.
