Regular customers try to twist my arm into bending the rules for them on a daily basis. For example, wanting to go out twenty minutes before we open or bringing beer. If I say yes, my manager bitches at me for breaking the rules. If I say no, my manager gives them what they want and tells them that he doesn't know why I said no but it's probably because I'm a control freak and enjoy telling people no. Keep in mind that this isn't a "the customer is always right" situation like an expired coupon or something where the customer may decide to go to Walgreens instead next time. These are club members who know the rules, know the reasons for the rules, know that I'm right, but also know that they can get what they want because my manager is a pussy. It wouldn't bother me so much if these weren't people I knew personally and if my manager wasn't a family friend who I've known for years inside and outside of work.

It has less to do with the rate of pay and more to do with the people I deal with. I realistically know I'll be working a lovely job until I'm done with school, and likely for some time after that. Being poor isn't really my gripe.

My store and town has an unusually high number of gambling addicts. Most stores in the area do around a couple hundred to slightly over a thousand in lottery a day. Not -too- bad when you consider some people drop $100 by themselves by buying the $30 tickets. My store does $5,000+ in lottery daily and we are the highest lottery revenue store in the state.

That means I have 2-4 customers playing keno and scratch for 1-3 hours at a time, sometimes longer. Ping ponging back and forth from one counter to my register. The fact that I was forced to sign a waiver to not get a lunch or any breaks during my shift means that I have absolutely 0 time to even collect myself. After a 10 hour shift of standing, starving, and dealing with these half homeless fucks who live to make my life miserable..... Well. Yeah. It gets to me.

I was desperate for literally any job ever, doing whatever. I was at a point where "income is income" and it was a condition of being hired. No sign, no work. Part of the contract also includes that they don't pay me during the 30 minutes a break would normally be scheduled.

I can't financially afford to quit. And because of the hours I work I have very limited time. I also go to school full time. I'm in a cycle where if I manage to get a few hours of free time I would rather try and relax and enjoy it then job hunting (even though I really should).

I can't buy lottery while on shift. I will be fired. But I do enjoy this concept of psychological warfare. Whenever someone asks what number the book of tickets is on I ALWAYS tell them a number that is either right at the beginning or the end. They are convinced that their "system" on where they put the winning tickets in the book is right. Something in their brain tells them that some dude is picking the numbers to put winners on and not some random computer algorithm. Most people are convinced they would never put a winner at the beginning or end of the book because they are literal retards.

It's really sad too because if their book that they play isn't in the right number range they will walk down (lol like these people have cars) to the next store or stop and shop and try their luck there.

I work for a large company and all the breakrooms had keurig machines for the most part that were pretty ideal as far as office coffee situation can go. Out of nowhere they replaced them all with this thing called Flavia which is the same concept just executed far far more pourly (get it... cause they pour coffee) in every conceivable way. MSRP they cost the same but I assume they cut some deal with the vendor to switch from keurig.

Pretty petty thing to get mad about but I had finally found the keurig kind that wasnt utterly disgusting and I drank it regularly. I have yet to find a Flavia one that is drinkable. Also the machine just sucks. It has a low clearance so only fairly standard height coffee mugs can fit there, and it has a horrible sensor that detects if a drink is placed and won't pour if it's not but the sensor malfunctions most of the time and you end up with a 10% full cup of coffee and have to repeat the whole process over again, this time baby-sitting it for 30 seconds while it brews.

If you even saw the conditions I'm forced to work in you'd be calling a lawyer about several other things that are unrelated to taking a break.

I could make a whole thread about how ridiculous my job is. Aside from that I get some pretty amazing characters coming through. I've taken pictures of them secretly while pretending to text (they don't notice. They are all intently staring at the Keno screen paying zero attention to me), so that I could make a thread about all the weird as gently caress people I regularly serve.

I decided not to make a thread though because my luck is the type of luck that somehow they'd find out and fire me or something.

Yeah we just had 1 person fired for selling to a minor. 1 person transferred after BARELY not getting fired because he was stealing a ton of poo poo (good on him). And then a 3rd person ended up getting fired as well for something equally as stupid. We have a 3rd shift girl who does not give a gently caress about her job or life. Consequently she shows up 1-2 hours late to each shift. So when i have homework due at midnight on the stupid McGraw Hill website, I am out at 9 but really there till 11. I have to race home and do it as fast as possible before its considered late. This is just a regular thing if she is the one relieving me. She is the type of person who out right told my boss on Halloween that she would be coming in drunk, if she came in at all. Then proceeded to no call no show, just as she said she would. She somehow still has a job because no one else is applying and they can't fire her. I'm already bumped up to a "temporary" 60 hours a week while we are so short handed, which is a bitch to deal with when I need to get homework done. I don't get time and a half for overtime or sundays either. I'm just forced to deal with it.

All for that sweet $250 paycheck each week. Which is going to bi-weekly in January to gently caress us over more because minimum wage is going up a dollar. They sent me a letter saying they are giving me a paycheck in advance at the beginning of january to help the transition to bi-weekly, but will be taking $50 a week for a number of weeks out of each subsequent paycheck to pay it back. So effectively I'll be making less money per week. I guess I could split the advance up per week but let's live in the real world where I already have backed bills and need to pay those with the advance anyway.

No actually they're only obligated to pay overtime if the company in question employs over an arbitrary amount of people (i think its a 100). Since he works in a convenience store with a shady owner im gonna guess its a franchised 7-11 or something and that guy prob only employs maybe twenty people so well he doesn't have to pay overtime.

It isn't a 7/11. But we only have 5 employees (excluding managers) for a store that is open 24/7. I am required to work 3 holidays a year, no exceptions. However, they define a "holiday" as July 4th, Christmas, New Years, and Thanksgiving. So I am forced to work 3 of the only 4 holidays they consider "holidays".
