The problem he has is schizophrenia. Being in a movie that made lots of money but wasn't popular with fat smelly nerds everywhere (also other kinds of nerd) does not equal having your life ruined. Most kids have to settle for doing something memorable and embarrassing or maybe getting fondled by a scout leader / Catholic priest. He was in a major motion picture. It's really not that awful a start in life.

Schizophrenia is incredibly hosed up and scary TBH. Guy was probably vulnerable to it as a kid and acting in Star Wars (or the teasing afterwards) brought it out. Another life ruined by George Lucas.
