Astrilia - B-Class Garden World, second out from its star. The star - C12-Exen - is near its end. Chandrasekar mass limit will be reached in three day’s time, whereupon its core will collapse and rebound, bathing Astrilia first in a wash of neutrinos and assorted radiation, then - minutes afterwards - a wave of stellar ejecta that will scour its surface clean. Natives are Early Information Age: no interplanetary flight. Samples have been taken for potential further exploitation but the remainder shall languish on their doomed world… This condemned world is the stage for this cycle’s Sundown Run, sponsored by Ascended Executive Supra-Corp RAMA! Thrill seekers, conscripted prisoners, adventurers and assorted badasses are all invited to compete in a race around the planet, knowing death is right around the corner - but if they’re fast enough, death’ll take second place instead. (Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to the Sundown Run. In this game, you’ll be racing around an inhabited planet in monstrously fast vehicles, hoping to finish the loop long before the nova blasts the planet into atoms. In Sundown Run, you’ll be taking control of both a Corp and a succession of Racers - why a ‘succession of Racers’, you ask? Racers are expendable, and they will probably die quite a lot! The Corp, however, is watching the whole race from AESC RAMA, far beyond any danger in the lap of utmost luxury. No matter what, there’s always more Racers - if you die, you aren’t out of the game! Incidentally, the full game design document is here if you don't want to wait for me to parcel things out. Character Creation - Corp You only get one shot at this, so make it memorable. This is not going to be a serious game, but I strongly suggest that even if you’re a silly company, play it deadly seriously. You’re a high level mega-corporation, most likely catering to people across the galaxy - it’s literally ‘serious business’.
Motto - What’s a company without a catchy jingle? Show your company spirit! Logo - Your public face. Something cute? Something intense? Up to you! Aesthetic - How your products or packaging look - slick and metallic? Junky and heavy? Cheap plastic? Colors - Colors you dig, ya dig? Character Creation - Racer No need to be serious with these guys - they’re probably going to die soon anyhow! Go crazy here, and really design some far-out character concepts. Worst case scenario and you hate it, crash them into a bridge.
Species - The vast majority of Racers are likely to be some form of pan-humanity, but there are one or two uniquely alien races out there who want to get in on the action. Character Creation - Weapons, Explained Weapons are important, but the setup can be a little complicated! I assure you, creating them is the only hard part for you or me.
___ (1d20 + Your Attack) - (1d20 + Their Defense) / d4 So a difference of 8 would be 2d4, dealing 2-8 damage ___ But what if it doesn’t divide nicely!? Easy. The remainder is rolled for on the last die. Reroll anything over the threshold. So, a difference of 10 would be 3d4, the last die only accepting rolls of 1 or 2. If you prefer, you could look at it like 10=3d4+1d2 The attack would deal 3-10 damage.
___ Gain +1 Attack per Restriction Perhaps your Weapon can ‘Only Fire Forwards’? Or ‘Only Hit Racers Adjacent’? That sort of thing! If it restricts usage in a meaningful way, it’s fair game. ___ Three Restrictions MAX Only three Restrictions are possible per Weapon - up to +3
___ Choose a damage threshold (minimum of 4) Beyond that threshold, any excess damage converts to increased effectiveness of your status effect. So, with a threshold of 4, if you deal 3 damage, no status effect is applied. If you roll 5 damage, you deal only 4, and a low-level status effect is applied. If you roll 20 damage, you deal only 4, but do quite a powerful effect. ___ Choose a Status Effect There are a variety of Status Effects in Sundown Run, most of which attack the Stats of an enemy Racer. Unless stated otherwise, Status Effects take effect the turn following the attack. Status Effects can be seen in the Status section below. ___ Determine effectiveness Similar to damage calculation, the roll above the threshold is divided into d4s. With a threshold of 4 and a roll of 12, the calculation for the effectiveness would be (Magnitude 12) - (Threshold 4) = 8 / d4 = 2d4. The Effect would affect the target with a magnitude of 2-8 points. Again, this seems complicated, but it’s all automated on my end - all you need to do is pick a threshold. ___ Your threshold can be any number If you set the threshold high, it will activate far less often, but it’s a nice boost for a high roll. Confused? Look at some examples.
Plain Weapon [Rending Spikes (+1) | No Status | Only Attack Adjacent] This Weapon has a Restriction, granting +1 Attack if you Attack Racers immediately before or after you in Position [Hypno-Ray | DT8 - Stun | No Restrictions] This Weapon has a Status Effect with a Damage Threshold of 8. If the attack deals more than 8 damage, the Status Effect takes place. So say it does 15 damage: 15-8/d4 = 1d4 + 1d3. The Effect would affect the target with a magnitude of 2-7 points. [Mega-Boom (+3) | DT20 - Burning | Fire Forward/Fire After Moving/Every Other Turn] This one is a biggie. Three Restrictions, granting +3 Attack. If you deal more than 20 damage, Burning takes place. Say we roll 19 - Burning does not activate. Those who have played my other game Lord of the Tower may note that this game is a little more mechanics heavy. I swear this will be a relaxed, easy game once character creation is out of the way - your posts can literally be two sentences describing what actions you're taking. For now, just submit some characters, and I'll gradually feed out some more information as it becomes necessary. Feel free to ask questions if you're confused - the full game design document is here if you don't want to wait for me to parcel things out. Looking forward to seeing what you got!) Company name: The Academy of Titan The Academy of Titan is a prestigious, moon-spanning institution specializing in novel practical applications of highly theoretical branches of science, highly notable for its large accumulation of talent. For the Academy, Sundown Run is most relevant as a testbed for the various departments to show their stuff in their endless quest for more grant money. Motto: We make the impossible slightly less so. Logo: Aesthetic: Sterile exteriors: white and chrome hues and a sleek build with orange rims (orange being the official colour of the academy). Emphasis on a pointedly stereotypical ’futuristic’ look to sell the high-tech angle to the audience. The interiors of vehicles are mostly a huge mess of poorly labeled switches and makeshift wirework of a work-in-progress prototype. Colours: Whites and chromes with the occasional dab of orange. ____________ Racer: Tom the Intern. Species: Human Stats: 1 Health, 2 Mobility, 2 Attack Description: Tom drives the ”Mobile Testbed X-1κ”, courtesy of the department of Applied Transdimensional Kinetics Manipulation. More affectionately known as the ’Kappa’, the craft hovers a meter or so off the ground. Weapons: [Kinetic Leech (+3) | DT6 – Kinetic Leech (Steal momentum from an enemy) | Fire Forward/Fire Only When Moving/Stat malus on a miss (racer slows down instead of speeding up)] The leech fires a handful of tiny flechettes that stick to a target opponent and link the area around themselves to the Warp Pendulum© that feeds the Kappa’s Momentum Drive©. This causes the affected parts of the enemy craft to lose momentum in relation to the Planet, which in turn can cause major structural destabilization (imagine an airplane which loses all momentum in one wing but nowhere else). Of course, should the flechettes miss their intended targets and hit immobile scenery instead, the craft will lose some of its own momentum and slow down. [Anchorstone (+1) | No Status | Fire Backward] The Kappa releases a roughly fist sized ball of an extremely tough material (the specifics are a trade secret!), which tries to maneuver on the path of the designated enemy with its attached thrusters. Once in position, it combines its own momentum with the momentum of the Planet by crosslinking itself with a reverse-polarized Kinetic Anchor©, making it essentially immovable by conventional forces. Skills: Kinetic shift: The Kappa holds a multitude of highly experimental kinetics manipulation devices within its hull, making it capable of perfectly synchronized momentum shifts and near instantaneous changes in movement vectors. This enables things like impossible zig-zags and right angle turns without having to slow down. Slingshot: Rocks, trash or space cows getting in your way? The kinetics manipulators can be aimed outwards as well. Special: Kinetic Storm: Overloads the momentum drive and causes a myriad of chaotic changes in velocity of nearby objects, flinging them randomly away from the Kappa. Clears away random debri from the racer's way. All shots targeted at the Kappa as well as all shots that would have to pass it in order to connect with their intended targets will instead hit random targets other than the Kappa. All racers that the Kappa passes or that pass the Kappa will have to pass fairly tough Mobility rolls or face hilarious(ly terrible) consequences. The GM both rolls these rolls and decides on what they do to the affected should they fail. Parts: Precision Revectorizer (Not.It): Consumable. Can be used to redirect an attack from yourself to a Racer immediately before or behind you. AI Action: Gotta go fast. Shoot the leech at leader if possible, activate Special if being shot at/if it would be really funny. Theantero fucked around with this message at 21:45 on Feb 7, 2016 |

Character Creation – Corp "We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new path." Walt Disney Corp. is a multinational (and recently galactic) mass media and entertainment conglomerate giant that is known throughout every registered household in the known solar system for its film and cartoon animation beloved by children and adult alike. Their goal is to spread of their creations to every corner of the galaxy. Aesthetic – Artistic. All creations are finely crafted with the greatest attention to detail and its theme to please its audiences. What medium of material will be determined by the creative process, as such, the mind is the only limit. Color – Depend on the overall theme. ____________ Alien Creation: Kar’tun The Kar’tun (Also known as Car Tuner) is a form of two-dimensional entity. While the specific definition has changed over time, modern usage refers to a typically non-physical or semi-physical creature that doesn’t have a physical body in the Z-axis. They are generally filled with satire, caricature, or humorous beings. They seem to require some sort of conceptual meaning both physically and mentally to be able to exist in our dimension. Thus, many of them take the form of things that can be found in this world, but twisted into the design of their individual species’ preference. Their less respectful nickname is called: The Plagiarizer. Kar’tun’s car typically uses fresces for their external design while the car’s component parts of the composition when assembled in a 2-D printer over a series of days to link up accurately in the X and Y axis while providing a really miniscule amount at nano-scale level of Z axis to make them possible to exist in this world. They have a great advantage in passing other racers with agility and due to their lack of depth, but the lack of constitution makes them much more fragile than other racers. They are skilled into car tuning related abilities thanks to their immunity to the physical resistance of the z-axis which allows them to slip through the z-dimension and reach the x-y dimension. In layman term, they can 'phase' through an object and perform modification or change to it. This ability become especially useful in Sundown Run as the racer can almost instantaneously swap and install parts on the go. Thus, this earned their nickname of Car Turner. Walt Disney Corp. is their main benefactor who invented the two dimensional gate to enabled these species to travel into our world. Thus, most of Kar’tun racers are represented by Walt Disney Corp and many takes the forms of licensed property the corporation owns. The specific biological mechanism of the Kar’tun remains a mystery, but it is believe that they are powered through something called ‘Animation’. It is uncertain whether these being require substance such as food or sleep, but the symptom for the lack of food and sleep does manifest in these being when they took the form of things that require so. Was it mimicry or does their adaptive morphing ability changed their biology? The world may never know. ____________ Racer: Bob Pre and post-cross dimensional manifestation into our world. Project name Bob is one of the first experimental Kar'tun that successfully crossed over into our world. Although it doesn't have the most pleasing look, it is sufficient for some human female employee to gleefully recommend it as the first representative racer. Bob is happy to have the chance to prove itself to its benefactor of its specie and will does its best to help spread the fame of Walt Disney Corp. throughout the galaxy! Species: Kar’tun Stats: Health: 10 + 12 (3) = 22 Mobility: (1) Armor: (1) Attack: (0) Description: Parade car that is large and showy. A giant blow up balloon can be deployed for extra showmanship. I won't sugarcoat the news, gentlemen. MILTEC has maybe three months left before we can no longer pay the bills and have to declare bankruptcy. It's that damned Sundown Race I tell you, Jim. Every time they host one of those things, just about every system in the galaxy seizes its wars just to participate. If I may make a suggestion: why don't we enter our company and advertise our products? We produce weapons and war machines, Bob. Most of the people who tune in to the races couldn't afford our products if they saved every penny they earned for the next ten years. Sure, but there's trillions of viewers. And we only have to sell one gamma cannon or planet burster to turn a profit. Did you not listen to a thing I just said? No world leader is going to stock up on weapons during peace time. That just means we, uh, have to market to a different demographic of people. John, what do the numbers say? Of every demographic, the Sundown Run is most popular amongst boys aged 8-12. They don't tend to have a lot of disposable incone either. That's worthless! You're worthless! Well, some of those children are bound to have incredibly rich parents. A well dressed man walks into view of the camera. A corporate announcement is to be underway. "Ahem. Excuse me, I am a paid translator for this company. Bear with me, the language is rather hard to capture..." The man turns his head slightly and adjusts his earpiece. Some faint sentences can be heard as the man is listening: well, ye best reckin dat no raise can hapin widdout.. "Ah! yes -Well, given the new focus in this system on racing, this corporation and the subsequent 'species' would like to participate and announce their new-found company, Smartees, Ink." The man taps a few buttons, and one of the logos appear in the holoscreen: "Smartees, Ink is founded by the Mason species, led by their leader Mason. Once considered solely human, leading scientist Brainson on the planet Mason determined through careful experimentation with electrical sockets and a fork that they can be considered an entirely new species, comprised more on luck than intellect." The man looks up from the script. "I added that last line. I seriously don't know how these guys even incorporated if they can't even spell it." "Aaaand now they just decided to get drunk and hoot and holler. That's fine, I'm still getting paid for this. Blah blah blah, enjoy stupid rednecks with taped up vehicles ruining your space racing. I'm done." With that, the man walks off camera and heads out the door.

Okay, so a little bit of clarification with stat allocation seems to be in order. Some people are assigning 5 points with the belief that they must be allocated so that only one stat can be assigned no points, whilst some people seem to think that dropping one stat to zero entitles them for an extra point (thus having an effective 6 points to allocate). DK please clear this up tia.

Archipelago Tessellation Inc Steven Ignacio the Human ___ Health - 0 HP 10 ___ Mobility - 2 ___ Armor - 2 ___ Attack – 1 Your stats are fine, but I need more details on that Quantum Flechettes weapon – I don’t know what any part of that line means, haha. Your Special might be a touch too powerful, or at least too various in its effect. Maybe pick one of them or consolidate it a bit? Part-Wise, Mobile.Fabricator’s effect has changed – pick another one, if you want! Academy of Titan Tom the Intern the Human ___ Health - 1 HP 14 ___ Mobility - 2 ___ Armor - 0 ___ Attack – 2 Stats are fine, Kinetic Leech makes sense and will probably be represented as –Mobility on your target, +Mobility to you. Not sure what I’ll do if your target isn’t rolling Mobility, probably just some flat Mobility bonus. Special seems fine, Parts are fine. Walt Disney Corp Bob the Kar’tun ___ Health - 3 HP 22 ___ Mobility - 1 ___ Armor - 1 ___ Attack – 1 Stats are fine, Weapons are ridiculous and if anything might be TOO constrained – if you ever want to attack, you’ll need to spend your other turn Shilling. That’s FINE, it’s just crazy. And Ad Explosion, if I understand it correctly, needs to hit the target and do enough damage to generate a Corp Point before any damage actually hits the target? Also, there’s no laps – maybe once per Checkpoint? That’s way too restrictive. I think you might need to rethink your weapons a bit! Special is fine, Parts are fine. Blammo!! Incorporated Blammy the Capuchin Monkey (Human Uplift) ___ Health - 0 HP 10 ___ Mobility - 1 ___ Armor - 1 ___ Attack – 3 Stats are fine, Weapons are fine – however, Loot Pinata (while super funny) is really not much of a restriction! Maybe tag on a debuff or something? Special is fine (looks like a boosted Shill/Shill inhibitor). Parts are fine, though Huge.Rocket was tweaked recently – go take a look if it’s still something you want. GEN Gruff Mann the Human, Piloting DESTRUCTO MECHANO ___ Health - 1 HP 14 ___ Mobility - 0 ___ Armor - 3 ___ Attack – 1 Stats are fine, Weapons are fine – I’ll provably deem that surpressing fire debuffs Mobility and Armor and that the AOE attack hits Racers adjacent to the target. Special is fine but might be pretty niche – as long as it’s written well I’m sure it’ll be fine though! Part is fine, though we tweaked that earlier too to describe what ‘On Fire’ means - <=5HP Smartees, Ink Mason the Mason (Human Subspecies) ___ Health - 1 HP 14 ___ Mobility - 1 ___ Armor - 2 ___ Attack – 1 All fine – do you have the Random Effects table written up, yet? Really, as long as the effects are unpredictable it’s pretty fair regardless what they are. Escutchen Armor Technologies LTD Anton Kalinin the Human ___ Health - 1 HP 14 ___ Mobility - 0 ___ Armor - 3 ___ Attack – 1 Stats are fine, Weapons are okay – Regarding the Mortar, the target will almost certainly always be visible on satellite; I’d suggest changing that restriction somehow. Special is fine, Parts are fine. Crispy Creek Biotechnology Services Knight Crawler the… Human (Machine Graft) ___ Health - 0 HP 10 ___ Mobility - 3 ___ Armor - 1 ___ Attack – 1 Stats fine, Weapons fine. Special is super vague, but in the interest of not spoiling the plot too much I’d allow it! Parts are fine – I’ll indicate pretty clearly when the area isn’t ‘bright’. Don’t Worry, I know What I’m Doing… err, LTD. Happy the Sloth (Human Uplift, Machine Graft) ___ Health - 1 HP 14 ___ Mobility - 0 ___ Armor - 2 ___ Attack – 2 Stats fine, Weapons fine – Wooziness is vague, probably a Mobility defuff. Special is fine, Parts are fine. One issue – you know he has to be in a vehicle, right? He’s not just a sloth with a gun, right!? He’s not just walking the route, RIGHT!? He can’t, he needs a car give him a car. Ahistorical Preenactment Society Diamond Joe™ v11.38thx the Human ___ Health - 1 HP 14 ___ Mobility - 2 ___ Armor - 2 ___ Attack – 0 Stats fine, Weapons INSANELY DANGEROUS but mechanically okay, Special okay but boring, Its.A.Hemi is already a Part (Red.Paint) and gives +1 to Mobility Alright, I think probably our starting lineup will be

One by one, the corporate representatives of tens of thousands of systems filtered into RAMA’s blessed presence. For the occasion, RAMA took the form of a massive station orbiting Astrilia - for the unfortunate savages left on the planet, it must have appeared as a another moon, hanging ominous and unmoving. As they entered the halls of RAMA’s local branch, the doors slid open before them soundlessly, revealing a cavernous room of unmatched opulence. This, the Betting Hall, is where they would be spending the next few standard days - unlimited food, unlimited alcohol, drug-fumes pumped into the air to clear away discomfort and keep the representatives awake, alert and joyful for the duration of the Sundown Run. RAMA was good and kind indeed. (This is where your Corporate Reps will be hanging out during the race. Whether or not you currently have a Racer in play, this is where you will be. Feel free to flesh out the Reps as much or as little as you wish - if you want them to sit quietly and watch, that’s completely fine as well. Every once in a while, the Corps will get an action/vote/activity - you may vote or abstain as you wish, regardless whether or not you have a Racer in play) Simultaneously, the shipments of Vehicles and Racers entered into a far more spartan (though no less impressive) hall - the Fabricatory. Smooth, teal walls bristled with equipment and materials beyond the entrant’s wildest dreams - the least of RAMA’s bounty. For some, this Sundown Run was the most recent of many, and they found their way to their personal bays and set to making last minute changes. For many, however, this was their first time in RAMA’s presence - indeed, their first time in the presence of any Ascended Executive Supra-Corp. They took the time to wander - to wonder - at the strange and miraculous objects presented as trifling mundanity. Eventually, all found their way to their alloted bays and unveiled the first of their Vehicles, the first of their Racers. Human, Kar’Tun, and Antecedent pit crews mingled freely, their physiological and cultural differences long since forgotten - here, there was only the Run. (Racers and their pit crew hang out down here - they’re not important enough to go upstairs - but for the mechanics at least this place is heaven. Literally anything you want or need, you can get pretty much instantly. These guys don’t get any say in votes or anything, but if you want to write about them, they’re down here! All the Vehicles for all the Racers you’ll be using throughout the game are assumed to have been built and shipped here already, but obviously you don’t need to have them all planned out in advance. Also, regardless what your Vehicle looks like, ALL of them are based on RAMA’s templates - that’s how Parts can swap onto anything! RAMA has a whole poo poo ton of templates though, so don’t let that constrain you creatively.) Your Vehicle is loaded into a dropship with the same clean, pure lines of the station itself. RAMA’s logo and slogan cover every surface, and despite your nerves you feel comforted by their presence. As your Vehicle is fastened into place, you consider its great power and speed - you feel yourself the mind of some great and predatory beast, about to pounce on an unwary prey. You feel the slightest kick as the dropship disengages and sinks towards Astrilia. Your Route Plotter flicks on, pulling your eyes from the planet below. [Standby for Cannon Launch] …

RAMA’s massive shuttle lowers you partially into the atmosphere, just skimming along the surface. Your route flashes briefly on your HUD, before contracting to a subliminal tick in the corner of your vision. Your first destination: the Glitterblack, an enormous black desert of black sand. Pass through its dangers, and you’re on to the next step of your race. And then the launch cannon swivels into place - and you’re falling towards the planet, blast shielding stripping away in the atmosphere. Better hit the ground running! (Alright, you’re up!
First things first, I STRONGLY recommend you read the Instruction Manual here. I will be explaining things as we go, but it’ll make your life much easier if you know roughly what’s going on! Now, onto the important stuff, your Actions! Each round, you pick two Actions from this list:
What are Points, you ask? I'll tell you when you earn some! Alternately, read the Instruction Manual! This first round will be instructional for all of us, so I'll fill you in after its resolution! I'll give people a few days, but if we're missing someone I'll probably just roll based on your AI and move on. Dog Kisser fucked around with this message at 00:22 on Nov 22, 2015 |

http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3751594#post452750619 This whole 'join the race' thing still sounds like a terrible proposition for me. When MILTEC can no longer afford to pay its bills and investors start screaming for our heads, I want them all to know this wasn't my idea. Stop being so gloomy, Jim. We'll be swimming in cash if we win this thing. And look! Over there! It's our entry! Wait, isn't that-- A T-type turret, yes. I told Engineering to dismantle one from a star cruiser and make it mobile. It's basically an anti-frigate gun on wheels. That's just insane. I can't believe you actually found someone dumb enough to pilot it. We, eh, didn't. Our mascot is seated in the cockpit and he has access to all sorts of buttons, levers and control panels, but they're mostly for show. The entire thing is basically controlled by an AI. As long as that monkey presses a button every five minutes, it'll keep working. The rules say you can't have a fully computer-operated racer, so we had to include that as a work-around. --- Meanwhile on the race track, Blammy mashes a big red button and drives off into the distance. GENtlepeople of the Coolcil. It is my sad duty as GENeral Manager to inform you of our current predicament. Sales of one of our most popular videogame franchises is down. Our focus groups cite tired, rehashed imagery and poor prerendered scenes as the major faults of production. This cannot stand. Our reputation requires that we take action, our shareholders demand it. The Sundown Run (Courtesy of RAMA) offers unlimited potential for a firm such as ours, for this project and many others. Therefore I have taken steps to ensure that the the 'Exterior- Exciting Chase Sequence' cutscene of 'Crater Carnage 5' be staged right here, on Astrilia. Our best sattelites, air supperiority papparazi drones, stunt-cameramen, not to mention the footage we can obtain from RAMA itself will be all that we need to make this next instalment a resounding success. I need not mention the overall exposure merely participating in the race will grant us. I trust you all to make me proud. "GRUFF MANN. You know the script." the intercom chimed at him through the darkness of the interior of DESTRUCTO MECHANO. Even through RAMAs shielded carrier he could feel the vibrations rattle his bucket of bolts. GEN had loaded his truck to the brim with high powered explosives, and the planet he was landing on was going to be destroyed within days at any rate. Still he'd survived worse. And if worst came to worst, hey, what a way to go? He grunted as if to confirm, not that they could hear him. Communication was strictly one way. What did the corporate big-wigs care for his predicament? But you'd be mistaken to think GRUFF MANN was bitter. No, like all good videogame action heroes he was actually incredibly excited. "Rehashed imagery?! REHASED IMAGERY?! I'll show THEM re-hashed imagery!" "DESTRUCTO, full power to weapons!" "LETS BLOW THIS JOINT!" Deciding that the comfortable descent of the RAMAshuttle was to slow for comfort GRUFF MANN does what he does best. Destroys everything. Explosive Deconstruction to destroy the shuttle so I can fall faster: 1d20+5 = 16 Blasting his way our of the comfort of the launching platform, he lets gravity take hold of his behemoth of a racing machine, becoming a multitonne meteor blazing with gunfire and random missiles. From speakers hidden all around the machine, a strange anthem could be heard. Long Range Missiles for Awesome Explosive Entry: 1d20+1 = 15 The atmosphere streaking by him, the ground coming closer every second, he took uncareful aim at whatever was below him and opened up with a full salvo of 'earth shatter' penetrating groundstrike MIRVs. His goal was not so much to hinder his competition as to enter the race in a glorious aura of gunfire and explosions. Glassing the desert below him would remove any cheeky obstructing rocks, that would otherwise be quiet the peril to his not-very-manuverable juggernaut. How is our little pet project going? Excellent, sir! The Kar'tun are in rank to die for the glory of WALT DISNEY CORP Good. Has the race begun yet? Yes, sir! The race just started, but our racer are placed on hold. ... Why? Something about our parts being too weak. Bah, we are there to shill, not to fight a war. Those idiots have no sense of artistry. I agree, sir. Money is what important. That and the happiness of children. Aye, sir.

As the RAMA station arrived over Astrilia, it was followed by a swarm of much smaller vessels. Private observer yachts, Space-Dog vendors and die hard SR fans alike could be seen scurrying about. Amongst them was the massive TCSS Censor's Glare, a Titan Campus Security battlecruiser and the flagship of their navy. A small but luxurous shuttle left the cruiser on a course towards the RAMA betting hall hangar. Yes, the rumours are true: Professor Giovanni, the dean of the Academy, would be overseeing his underlings' performance personally. Strutting to his VIP suite with a confident swagger, Giovanni addressed his omnipresent staff members without bothering to actually look their way. "The Kinetic Anchor has been primed?" "Yes, Professor." "The Warp Pendulum has undergone planar fixing?" "Yes, Professor." Giovanni flashed a brief smile. He retrieved a small silver hammer and a tiny orb to match from his suit pocket. "Good! Then, I declare the Momentum Drive officially unveiled!" Giovanni hit the orb with a little tink, the force traveling through several iterations of positive-feedback loop impact boosters, until it finally ended up at the Warp Pendulum, giving the strange device the kick it needed to start functioning. "I hope the people at Kinetics can impress..." "...their grant depends on it." Tom the Intern Tom perked up as an unlabeled light lit on his piloting console. Now thankfully, Tom had always been a fairly good student and could remember that this particular one signified that the engine was operational. He put his sweaty and trembling hand on the large 'ENGINE ON/OFF' switch, closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and after some deliberation finally pulled on the thing. A loud and ominous humming immediately filled the craft. "...oh Jesus..." "I hope this thing actually works oh God." Mobility: 1d20+2: 12 ... Tom carefully opened one eye. He then opened the other one when he had ascertained that everything had not been torn to pieces by forces barely understood. "Huh." "Well, that worked out non-catastrophically. Let's try this other button then." Kinetic Leech: 1d20+5: 6 Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the first critfail of the game! Tom could hear a slight metallic screech as a bunch of flechettes perforated the front of his vehicle. "..Uhh..?" Tom removed an obstructive post-it note next to the button, and read the label underneath. "Kinetic Leech launch switch. IMPORTANT: Remember to open the flechette latches first!" "...oh." Giovanni was resting his face on his palms. "......This is going to be a long couple of days, isn't it Margaret?" "Yes, Professor." [1. Mobility: 12] [2. Crispy Creek Biotechnology Services Hi kids! It's me, your old pal Mr. DNA! You're in for a real treat today because it's the start of the Sundown Run and Crispy Creek is going to show you how living things can beat machines. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to wake up as a bug one day? Well, Mr. Knight Crawler down there gets to wake up like that every day! How did we make him like that? Great question! It only takes three steps. Step one, you take some DNA from a regular ol' house centipede. Step two, you use cutting-edge science. And step three, you get Mr. Knight Crawler! At Crispy Creek, it's that easy. Wave to the kids, Knightie! Look, he's doing the wave with his crawlers! That means he says hi and he's so happy to be racing today.
