One time I spent 30 minutes on the phone setting up my 403b, trying to open a mutual index fund (? The "boring" kind that does let traders gamble like a casino? That doesn't allow brokerage fees) The guy on the phone was clearly irritated, huffing and puffing, sucking his teeth. The line went dead. I called back, couldn't get a hold of who I was speaking to, and the company said they had no records of any of the info I just discussed. Welp

The closest I have ever gotten to any of this was the stock mini game in GTA 5. I hosed up and lost all my money so I figured it was a good lesson and just enjoy what I have. I kinda knew these people existed from over the years. It's like they all exist in their own little world and think they have it figured out. The one thing that the people I have met like this and some of the people on the forum have in common is that they self congratulate themselves on 'canny' investments and that they seem to think they have this insight no one else has. I have met gamblers with the same attitude. I guess you need to have that kind of attitude to convince yourself that you are a shark. It's like being an expert on slot machines. "If I keep playing, it will pay out big because the casinos put the high payout machines here and I read online that at 7pm exactly switches inside the machine reset and you need to use a certain coin etc." Trying to second guess a company's direction like the guy saying he believed in the management team is delusional. They probably believe in cosmic ordering. I feel for the people who lost their savings, but it's hard to be sympathetic. It's all part of the risk. The people I know like that think that they have the cheat codes to society and are going to get rich and retire at 40 while us suckers work at jobs and miss out. Others were probably mislead with bad advice. I am sure it could be good fun playing the penny stocks if you came into a bit of money and if you knew what you were doing and were patient and not too greedy, I am sure you can do well. But I could never imagine betting my already bleak future on it. Thanks to everyone for the insight into this weird world.
