Dalmore's heirloom Chronos Rod has been mentioned in passing a few times; ancient artifacts are right up Weissmann's alley.[/i]

it's the arrest one. they don't dwell overly long on it but both the hijacking of the linde and the orphanage affair were basically richard setting up high profile crimes so he can solve them and make himself and the i.d more influential

this is less clear in chapter 2 of FC though since your and kloe's involvement kinda messes that up and the royal guardsmen end up making the arrest

I wonder if either candidate in this election intends to do anything about Ruan's slack gambling laws, letting minors have the run of the casino like that.

Estelle may have developed a bit of a habit in my last playthrough, I don't know why but whenever there's blackjack in a videogame I always end up playing it for hours.

-Seaport City of Ruan-

We've been working like dogs at training, but it still doesn't feel like we're any stronger.

Like, everything's gotten a couple times more powerful than it used to be. It's freaky...
Now that you mention it...yeah...
...Ah, whatever. How about we have a night on the town? First one we've had in a while!
We can hit up the Lavantar in the north block! How's that sound?
Oh, that place with the remodeled second floor that's a casino now?!
Aww yeah, that sounds great, especially since I hear the dealers are hot chicks! Maybe I can show them my strength at poker, if you know what I mean!
Now that's a plan!
Carna's out of town, so if we wanna cut loose a bit, now's the time!
Man's Voice: Do you seriously think you can get away with that?

Alright Agate, work your magic.

Tch...
What the hell is this? I hear all about how you've 'improved,' and when I show up you guys are acting like THIS?
Ah-hahaha! It was just a joke, man! Totally a joke!
Hey, wait, isn't that...
That's that newbie bracer chick, Estelle!
Hey guys, been a while! We last met at the tournament, I think.
Yeah, sounds right.
Oh, man! We watched you from the stands after our fight, all the way to the finals!
You were incredible! I've fallen for you all over again! ♥
Ahaha...Um, thanks?
Anyway, we're here for a reason. Guild business. Is the guy who saw a 'white shadow' here today?
White shadow? You mean...
Yeah, they must mean that.
You know what I'm talking about, then!
So spit it out already. Stop wasting our time, it's valuable.
...Wait just one drat minute.
Where do you get off, making demands like that?
Huh?
You're pissin' me off. You abandon us, leave us in the dust, to become a BRACER, of all things. A fuggin' law-whore!
And then you come back to us, only when it's convenient for you, and expect us to tell you whatever? Well, you can just piss right off!
Yyyyyieee, Rocco...!
Heh. You're a prideful son of a gun, Rocco...same as ever. What d'you want me to do, then, huh? Get down on the ground and beg?
...

oh right Agate sucks at magic

WH-WH-WH-WHAT?! WHY?!
Dude, dude! Calm down!
Shut it! We need to settle this!
You win, we'll tell you what you want to know.
If WE win...you don't get to act like the puffed-up king fish no more.
Hah. Suits me just fine.
Let's see just how tough you guys have gotten...

Oh, man, oh, man, why'd things turn out like this...?
But hey, we get to fight Estelle again! ♥
I, ah, dunno if that's really the point here...
Okay, then! Don't expect me to hold back!

-Obstructive Existence-

My basic strategy for this fight(and most other fights): Agate does nothing but Wild Rage.

By clenching hard enough to give himself an aneurysm, Agate gains enough CP to launch into an S-Break, either immediately or on an upcoming damage/CP+50 bonus.

Meanwhile, Estelle does nothing but keep Agate doped up with Teara Balm. Wild Rage costs him a little more than 2000 HP at this level, but he should still last long enough.

The Ravens can boost each other's STR...

...and reduce your DEF. This move also has a chance to Seal, which is why Agate has that Pearl Earring.

Take this!

FINAL BREAK!

I won't be able to Teara Balm back up to a safe level now; Agate can and will knock himself right out if you use Wild Rage below 70% HP. The Ravens are going to drop something heavy before his next turn anyway, so I'll switch up a bit here.

take this you sons of a biscuit eater

As luck would have it, Rais dropped right before he could use whatever move he was charging up, and Estelle was able to swipe his CP bonus putting her just over the S-Craft threshold.

-Seaport City of Ruan-

I give, I give! If I had a white flag, I'd be waving it!
drat it...
Heh. Guess it wasn't TOTAL BS that you guys were in the tournament. You still aren't putting enough into it, though.
Even so, you guys are really good for civilians. Like, really, really good! Why not stop wasting your time here and become bracers?
What...?
B-Bracers? Us?
N-No way!
Hey, the guild doesn't discriminate. Agate became a bracer, and so did I, and I started out as a clueless kid! You guys should be able to do it, no problem.
Don't make promises you can't keep. A bracer's more than just hired muscle. There's a lot of jobs that need more than just mindless fighting. You should know that well enough yourself.
Well...yeah, but even so...
Y-Yeah, that's right.
Fighting's just about the only thing we're good at...
Shoulda known nothin' would be that simple...
...
Anyway...a deal's a deal.
I'll tell you what you want to know.
All right, let's hear it.
Like we said, we're looking for the guy who saw a 'white shadow.' We heard that one of you saw it.
Yeah, someone did. He ain't here today, but you're lookin' for Belden.
He joined about a year ago--long after Agate left. You might've seen him before, though, Agate...
Oh, yeah, think I did. We talked a bit when I came by on that last case.
Belden hasn't been by since seeing that thing, actually.
I heard a few people say he's stuck in bed from the shock of seeing a ghost.
WHAT?! D-D-Do you mean he was cursed, doomed to die, suffer forev--
Uh. Dunno about THAT...but I do know he was drat scared.
He's always been sort of a spineless rich kid, though.
Tch. So what's he doin' pretending to be a punk if he's got a nice family?
Ah, whatever. We'll hit him up for details. Where's this kid live?
It's the big place to the right of the mayor's mansion. Some old fart named Norman owns the joint. Belden's his oldest son.
To the right of the mayor's mansion, got it.
Thanks for your help, guys!
Okay, now we know where to go! Let's go meet this 'Belden' dude.
Sounds good. See you, guys. Don't get into any crap just 'cause you're bored.
Ah, shaddup.
You guys keep it up! And come by again sometime! Hopefully without beating us up next time...
Keep up the good work, Estelle! ♥

'Just to the right of the mayor's mansion'...Looks like the place.
Bridget: Oh, welcome.

Bridget: I would ask that you go see him there.
Huh?
Ah, we're not actually here to see your husband, ma'am.
We were hoping we could speak with Belden.
Bridget: Oh, goodness, you're here for Belden? I'm sorry, I thought you were here on election business.
Election...?
Er, wait, ma'am, is your husband...
Bridget: Yes, my husband is Norman, one of the mayoral candidates. He's using the top floor of the hotel as his election headquarters, you see. His supporters are doing...whatever it is people working for an election do up there.
Okay, I see. Oh, uh, we're from the Bracer Guild, actually. We kinda wanted to ask your son some questions, if that's okay.
Bridget: The Bracer Guild? Oh, no, has Belden done something wrong?
No, ma'am, nothing like that. We believe he may have witnessed something strange, though. We'd like to ask him some questions, if you'll let us.
Bridget: Something...strange?
Uh, he didn't tell YOU about what he saw, ma'am?
Bridget: I'm afraid not...I'm happy to have him home for the first time in ages, but he's barely spoken to me since he got back...And my husband's time is so dominated by the election that he won't even talk to his son...
I see...
Hmm...Do you mind if we talk to Belden, ma'am? If he's got some problems, we can at least let him talk about 'em.
Bridget: That sounds like a great idea. Please, go ahead. Belden's room is on the second floor.

Uh, 'scuse me? Could we talk to you for a sec?
Young Man: What the hell am I doing...? Came runnin' back home just 'cause Dad ain't here...I'm pathetic...
Hey. Look at people when they're talkin' to you.
Young Man: Eh? UWAAAAAAH! Wh-Who're YOU guys?!
Come on, Belden. Don't tell me you don't know me by reputation, at least.
Belden: Wha...A-A-AGATE?! Wh-What're you doin' in my HOUSE?!
Have some questions for ya, and your old lady let us in. Got some time?
Belden: U-Um, I...guess...What did you want to ask?
Well, we heard you saw a 'white shadow' recently. We were wondering if you'd mind telling us about it!
Belden: Oh, that...I'd...rather not talk about it, to be honest...Any time I remember much about it, I just get scared all over again...
The heck is THIS? You're a Raven! Man up! Talk already!
Belden: Ah! I'll talk, I'll talk!
Agate, stop scaring the poor kid. He doesn't need to wet himself.
Hey, he's talking, right?
C'mon, details, make with 'em.
Belden: Okay, okay. I was living in the warehouse where the crew hangs out until about a week ago. I usually only come back here for food, see? I slept over there, you know, so I could chill with my bros.
Yyyyou've got to be kidding. How in the name of the Goddess could you not want to live in a big comfy house like this...?
Although...didn't you use to live like that too, Agate?
...Don't change the subject.
So, you were with the crew. What happened?
Belden: Like I said, it was a week ago. The crew was all boozed up and asleep, but I woke up for some reason. Thought I'd go outside, feel the night air, y'know...and then I saw it.
You mean...the white shadow?
Belden: Yeah...a white shadow floating up in the air. It was in some kinda old-fashioned getup, cape and all...And it was...dancing in the air.
Ahaha, that's...rather specific.
Sure you weren't just drunk, tired, and seein' things?
Belden: Nah, no way. This scared me right out of bein' drunk, and I tried to scream but couldn't even do that...After the thing flew off to the northeast, I ran into the warehouse, yelling, and woke everyone up. That just got me a punch from Rocco, though...
Hmph...Okay, I see.
So WHEN did this happen? Do you remember?
Belden: I guess...around two in the morning? Aaaargh, now I remember the whole thing. I came home to try and FORGET all that!
Now I get why you ran home...
You just didn't want to sleep in some place where you'd seen something scary.
Pff. You're a failure of a punk, you know that? You'd be better off just quitting the Ravens and staying home.
Belden: Aww...Yeah, I know I'm not cut out for it. But, well, I just can't face my dad. He's busy with the election and not home much, and that's why I came back, but...Once the election is over, I'll have to face him, one way or another...And if he manages to win, my life'll get even MORE restrictive...
So, basically...you're just running away from something you don't like.
Belden: Wellllll...
Yeah, and you drat well know it, too.
The answer, genius, is to find your OWN answer, and stop relying on other people. I'll tell your old lady the same thing.
Belden: A-Agate...
We're done here.
Estelle, let's go.
Right.
Belden, thanks for talking to us.
Belden: Yeah...No point in running from my dad forever, right? I know that better than anyone. Still...

One witness done. Next stop: Mercia Orphanage.

That's one reason why I didn't make much use of Wild Rage 2. It forces too many of your other turns to be spent on propping Agate up, and that can get boring.

Welcome back. I'm glad to see you.
And you are...Agate, yes?
That's right. Been a while, ma'am.
We last met during that mess with Clem, yes. It really has been a while. Thank you so much for your help back then.
Hey, don't sweat it. Really. I'm just sorry I haven't stopped by since then.
U-Um, congratulations on getting the orphanage rebuilt! I'm amazed. It looks pretty much exactly how it used to be, too.
Heehee. I know it sounds silly to ask them to build it that way, but everyone was kind enough to humor me. I can't imagine this orphanage looking any other way. It just wouldn't be the same.
Haha. Yeah, I think you're right.
So, uh, are the kids inside?
Ah, no. They're actually out in Manoria for class. A traveling priest comes by once a week and holds Sunday School for us, you see.
Oh, okay. That's a bit of a problem, though. Y'see, we actually want to ask the kids about something, on top of just saying hello.
Oh? Would this have to do with the 'white man' Polly saw?
Ah, probably, yes! I see, so it was Polly who saw the person...thing. I always did peg her as a sharp one...
Well, come inside. You can wait here until they return. I do have some tea on the kettle, and a few snacks, too.
Th-Thanks...
...
What's up? Tea not your thing?
Theresa...You're not going to ask about Joshua, are you?
Ah...
Kloe...already told me everything. She worries easily, and she needed to unburden her soul onto someone when she found out...
Estelle...you've been through so much.
I...
Haha...Come on...If you say things like that, I...
I can't...hold it in...
...
...
You don't need to hold it in. You shouldn't...I'm all too familiar with how it feels to lose someone important.
...*sniff*...

I may not be able to be a mother for you, but...At the very least...I can hold you for a little while.

And here I was wanting to show up and show how I'm a big, tough, bracer woman now...
Hmhm! That's right, you are a full bracer now, aren't you? Congratulations, Estelle.
Ahaha, um, well...I'm still kinda green, to be honest.
Speaking of my little crying jag, though...Theresa, you mentioned that Kloe was worried about us?
Yes, about you and Joshua specifically.
She saw her precious friends suffering and felt powerless to do anything for them...She's struggled with it. She desperately wants to help you.
Precious friends...
Haha...I feel kind of awful she's been tearing herself up so much over it, but I'm glad she cares...I really need to go see her soon.
I believe the Jenis campus is closed to visitors right now due to the end-of-term examinations. Those should be over soon, though, and you can see her then.
Sounds like a plan! Also...y'know, the kids are a little bit late, aren't they? I don't remember Sunday School taking this long.
They may be playing in the village after class. The new traveling priest who's been coming by does seem like he's fond of children.
A new traveling priest, huh? (Wait, why does that sound familiar?)
We should head over to Manoria to check on 'em, then. We'll bring the kids back, if need be.
Good idea!
Are you sure? I wouldn't want to trouble you...
Haha! No problem! Think of it as thanks for the great tea and snacks!
'Sides, you owe her a big one for letting you cry like that, right?
H-Hey...
Haha...
Thank you so much. I'll be waiting here for your return.

-Looking Up at the Sky-

I can't help but feel humbled by women like that, y'know? The queen's the same way.
Haha! You too, huh, Agate?
Yeah...She kinda reminds me of Mom, that way...
Oh, yeah, the old man's wife.
She died during the war, didn't she...Hrm.
Agate? Something wrong?
Nah. Just...Women are strong, y'know? Stronger than you'd think...
What's this all of a sudden?
Ah, let it go. I'm...rambling. Or something...
C'mon. Let's go collect the kids from Manoria.

Not much happens on the way toPOM

-A Cat Relaxing in the Sun-

Still quiet as a church, it looks like.
Hey, nothing wrong with that. I like it! Your hometown of Ravennue was pretty quiet too, if I remember right.
I guess...
Anyway. Kids should be at Sunday School somewhere in the village. Let's look for 'em.

Creda: Apparently he's just been assigned here, but he was so young and...My, oh, my!

Elder Serge: The orphanage has been rebuilt, and people have returned to their normal lives. Now we just have to wait for our next mayor to be elected. The trouble the last mayor caused was a serious blow to Manoria. After terrible incidents like that, tourists stay far away, after all.

Carla: That guy says he's Dalmore's family butler. Or was, I guess.
Huh? Really?
Carla: I don't know if it's true or not. That's just what he's been saying.

Dario: Th...The good sir being arrested must...b-be some kind of mistake...Wh-What happened while I was away...?

The White Magnolia has a few new recipes, but I kind of spent every last mira in Ruan. We'll be back.

Orvid: Hm...? Oh, what a surprise! Do you remember me? I asked you to do a job for me a while ago.
Wait, you know him?
Yeah. He's a merchant...kinda.
It really has been a while, huh?
Orvid: Yes, last we met was before the birthday celebrations, I believe. If you don't mind, I'd like to get things underway immediately. Do you have the time right now?
Sure, no problem.
So, what's the job?
Orvid: All right, listen carefully. I'm currently putting together a list of ingredients obtainable across the entire Ruan region. Problem is, there've been lots of dangerous monsters out there lately, and I haven't been able to go out investigating on my own. That's where you bracers come in--I'd like for you to assist me.
Sounds easy enough.
What do you want us to do, specifically?
Orvid: First, take a look at this tentative ingredient list I've put together:

quote:

Savory Pinion, Leathery Tail, Gummy Eyeball, Monster Carapace, Beast Flesh, Prickly Seed, Fish Fillet, Clear Gelatin
Er, all right. I've written it down, but is this the list you were talking about?
Orvid: Yes, though it's incomplete. I want you to find ingredients from monsters that aren't on this list and bring them to me. Did you get that? Ingredients that are NOT on the list. Make sure you don't get that wrong. If you find ingredients that aren't on it, come here to report. Of course, you're also welcome to get a bunch together and report before you're completely done. However, I will need one of the ingredients as a sample, so do be careful not to eat too much.
Get ingredients not on this list and come here to report, then?
How many types do you want? Of the ones not on this list, I mean.
Orvid: Mmm...Can't be sure of how much is out there, but I'd be happy if you found five or six new ingredients. If you can find even half of that, I'd be willing to pay you for your time. Is there anything else you'd like to ask?
No, I think we've got it. We'll look around and see what we can find.
Orvid: Yes, please do. And no need to rush, it's not an urgent job. Still, I can't wait to see what you report!

Zack: Already check out the orphanage?
Yep, we just stopped by.
I could hardly believe how good it looked. That was a real surprise.
Zack: Not bad, right? I'm pretty proud at having had the chance to help. The kids've got their smiles back, so it feels like things are finally settled.
Oh, speaking of the kids, they're at Sunday School right now, right?
Zack: Yeah, they're holding it over at the Windmill Lodge in the south of the village. It should be over soon, so why don't you stop by?
The Windmill Lodge to the south...Got it, we'll go check it out.
Well, see ya!
Zack: Yeah, keep up the good work.

Huh? What's up?
Oh, uh, haha...Um, Joshua and I had lunch here a while back, you see...
It just...came back to me, is all.
Ah, right...
Hey, don't be like that. It's not like it's a memory of some great tragedy or anything.
I was just a kid who didn't really understand her own feelings. I totally forced Joshua to let me feed him, not even caring if anyone saw...He must've been really sick of me, even then.
Heh, you're still a kid, if you ask me. How 'bout it? Need a sec?
No. I can't stop now. Can't let myself stop now.
Besides! We need to find that Sunday School, right?
Right. Let's go.

"Looking up at the Sky" replaces "The Way They walk in Liberl" as the main road music in SC.

The Vista Forest Road monster is a little off of the main road and harder to spot.

The Laundry Pole drops from the Sasa Panda, which itself appears quite rarely along with the Roadrunner encounters. The Sasa Panda's apparently have a high chance of instant death, and should be shot down with arts ASAP. Roadrunners also have a chance to cause Instant Death with their demonic talons attacks. It's not the death which hurts, it's dying with a full CP gauge.

Estelle completely missed it, being caught up in fond reminiscences about this one time she mashed a sandwich into Joshua's face.
Given that the sign's still up, I guess they're still in class?
Could be. Let's take a look inside. They might've finished for the day and just forgot to take down the sign, too.
Good idea! Let me take a peek.

(W-Wait a sec! I know that guy...)
SHOCKING TWIST!!! It's the only traveling priest we've ever heard of:

In truth, Pedro did not think Duke Gaston would back down easily.
And what of the machinations of that foul masked puppeteer, Harlequin? Capri, Pedro's teacher, seemed to know the jester, but simply dodged any questions about him with frustrating vagueness.
Regardless, Pedro knew another battle would come...and soon. He would have to upgrade the Blue Knight if he hoped to emerge victorious.
'Oh, Pedro...' A slightly irritated, yet comforting voice snapped Pedro from his reverie.
'Do you wish for your tea to grow cold?' The clear blue eyes which met his own carried their own message: 'It will be all right.'
Pedro, a little embarrassed, took his tea...and drank deeply. It was enough to simply have this moment...with her.
...The End! That's The Doll Knight, kids.

But what about the fight with Harlequin?!

And you just know Pedro and Tia go on to get married and live happily ever after...
Ahhhh, so romantic... ♥
Lucia: Yeah, yeah! They gotta get married and be happy! ♥
Lucia doesn't live at the orphanage, so she doesn't get a portrait. On the other hand, her parents are still alive. You win some, you lose some.

*pheeeeeew* All twenty-two chapters of The Doll Knight in one sitting for a bunch of rambunctious kids. You want to talk challenges...
All right, kiddos, that's enough for one day! Class is over!
Aww!
Thank you for teaching us, Mr. Graham!
Oookay, never underestimating this group of kids again...
Yo, who's at the door? Class just wrapped up, so come on in!
Haha...You noticed me? Guess I stuck my nose in a little too far. Sorry for intruding!

WHAAAAAAAAAAA?!
Estelle!
Hi, kids! It's great to see you again! Are you guys doing okay?

This is great! It's been for-e-verrrrr!
Miss Estelle! Play with me! Me!
Welcome back! Welcome back!
Haha! Well, you haven't lost any energy, it seems!
And...Father Kevin! It's been a while.
Ah, she remembers me!
Of course I do!
Wow, though. You really are a priest...despite that getup.
Really, why all the hate on my awesome duds?
But, hey. What are the chances we'd meet again, here, of all places?
Could this be...fate? ♥

So you've met Father Kevin before, Estelle?
Hmhm! The world really is a small place.
I know, right? Craziness!
Thanks for lunch, by the way! It was excellent.
No, no, it's no trouble. Besides, it's the least I can do in return for what you've done for the children.
Hey, Estelle. How come Joshua's not with you today?
Ah...you see...He's...pretty busy with something, so he couldn't come today.
...
Aww, too bad...
Awww! I wanted Joshua to see the orphanage all fixed up, too!
Me too...
I wanted to see him dressed up like a princess again. So pretty...
Ah...haha...
Anyway, you guys were in Sunday School for a while. What was that you were reading when we came in? Some kind of novel?
Heheh! It's called 'The Doll Knight'! It's an awesome action story about fights between puppeteers!
Oooh, no it wasn't, swords-for-brains!
It was a romance! With desperate love between a noble lady and a common man...Mmmmmmm...Desperate love...
It's a young adult novel series I brought with me when I came to Liberl. I'd planned on reading it to the kids a little at a time...but they, uh, convinced me to do it all in one go. Hooo...
Haha! I guess the way you get caught up in stuff kinda backfired, there...
Hmhm! Well, thank you for your devotion, Father Kevin.
You'll be heading back to Ruan now, I take it?
Yeah, next logical stop, really. I've got other villages to visit, so I need to hop an airship soon.
Speakin' of. How come you're in Ruan yourself, Estelle? Bracer business, I guess?
Yeah, there's a lot going on.
Wait, on that note, we came out here to ask about something...um...
I believe you wanted to ask about the 'white man' Polly saw.
Oh, yeah, that thing.
Hmmmm? You wanna ask me stuff?
Yes, Polly, we have a question...Can you tell us about the white man you saw a little while ago?
The white man was a white man.
He was spinning like a top and was neato and fun!
Erm...We were hoping for a bit more...
Um, let me try and explain a bit better...
It was about four days ago...Polly was outside, just kind of spacing out...which is, y'know, usual for her...
And then she saw a 'white man' floating in the air.
Yeah! He was dancing around in circles in the sky! And when I tried talking to him, he bowed and flew away like a birdie!
You were totally asleep and dreamed up the whole thing! I mean, c'mon, that is the lamest ghost story ever!
I thought she might be dreaming at first, as well...but it seems someone else saw it, too.
Right, Daniel?
Um, yeah. I only saw a little, though. That night, I saw a weird white shadow flying off to the east.
Wh-White shadow, oookay...
Well, with two kids seeing it, I'm a lot more inclined to believe it.
The hell's up with just bowing when spoken to, though...
Hey, Polly? Did you get a good look at his face?
I dunno what his face looks like.
He was wearing a weird mask.
A mask?!
What the hell kind of ghost wears a mask?
drat, now our culprit could be ANY ghost!
Heeey, Pollyyy, you need to say this stuff! You never mentioned that before!
But nobody asked.
Well, masks aside, it seems it wasn't just a dream...Once Daniel told me about it, I contacted the Bracer Guild, just in case. We've been watching for it since then, but there's been no sign of it.
Hmmmm...
Well, thanks for your time, ma'am. This gives us a lot to think about.

Whenever you're in Ruan, you're more than welcome to stop by. Father, I'll see you the next time there's a class, I hope.
Yeah, you bet.
Ab-so-lutely! I'll drop by every time I have a chance!
See ya, Father Kevin!
You too, Estelle! And bring Joshua next time too!
Y-Yeah...
I dunno when I'll be back...but we will come to see you again!

-Looking Up at the Sky-

Gotta wonder, though, whether or not their matron qualifies for sainthood. 'Cause every single one of them was among the most polite, wonderful kids I've ever met!
Yeah, Matron Theresa's amazing. There's actually another...er, girl, who helps out here too...She's busy with her school exams and couldn't get out here today, though.
Hmm, okay.
Anyway, I'm headin' back to Ruan for a bit. What about you guys? Wanna come with?
Well, we've asked everything we need to over here. And the road's always better with company. Let's head out.
It's decided, then. Off we go to Ruan! Let's go!

Here's where you get your first proper look at Insensitive Jerk Father Kevin.

Father Kevin specializes in vampire slaying, thaumaturgy, and the Mystery Method. His STR and MOV are on the low side, but he gets good ATS, excellent DEF, and some fantastic support crafts. Currently, K-Pops has:

Crossgear Rage: Melee attack.
Sacrificial Arrow: Grants 40 CP to allies.

He also gets a very good arts setup: six and two, with the center slot locked to Time. Action quartz are vital for everybody, and Cast quartz are vital for anyone who uses lots of arts. A Time restriction is no restriction at all.

Now let's not go to Ruan, and say we did.

Moomin whyyyy

Also, some more Poms.

If you head away from Ruan, you can find a hidden job.

-A Cat Relaxing in the Sun-

Vogt: No use. Can't strain m'self any further.
Hi, Mr. Vogt! It's been a while!
Vogt: Well, it's you bracer kids again! Still full o' vim and vinegar, I see.
Oh, yeah, now I remember. You were knocked out during that whole mess with the Intelligence goons.
Agate doesn't sweat the small stuff, like innocent bystanders or collateral damage.
Yeah, this is Mr. Vogt, the lighthouse keeper.
How are you these days, Mr. Vogt? Still hanging in there?
Vogt: I've been all right, mostly. Though recently I--Ah! Agh...
H-Hey! What's wrong? Are you all right?!
Vogt: It's my bum back. Can't seem to shake this pain. Any time I bend at all, it's like someone's drivin' a spike through my spine!
Oof. Sounds pretty painful.
Can't you take some medicine for that or anything?
Vogt: I've been dealin' with this pain since you were in diapers, I'll have ya know! I'll not waste time trying to cure it now. It'll go away on its own. I'll see to that. Unfortunately, I can't afford t' sit around resting for too long right now.
Huh?
Is there something you need done?
Vogt: Matter of fact, there is. I was right in the middle of an important job when you stormed in here. You know there are orbments used in the lighthouse, right? I swapped the parts out for new ones, but I ain't given them all a test yet.
Oh, that sounds like it could be a problem.
Vogt: Nah, no worries. This is my responsibility. Wouldn't be much of a lighthouse keeper if I asked someone else to do it! I'll just take it slow an' easy. And keep my back straight.
I see...
Well, don't strain yourself, okay? You don't want to make it worse.
Vogt: You don't need to worry on that score, little miss. I know my body...Ah, listen to me go on! Sorry to chew your ears off. Good luck with your work, bracers.
Thanks! Take care, Mr. Vogt.
Vogt: ...Oh, yes, one moment. I almost forgot.
Hmm? What is it?
Vogt: Well, about testing them orbments...There's a manual on the bookshelf there with details on how to do it. If you're curious, feel free to take a look.
Huh?
Oh, uh, sure, I guess...
Vogt: It's an important job, to be sure, but it's mostly just flippin' switches. Anyone could do it if they read the manual, I reckon.
(You know. D'you think, just maybe...he's being the most passive-aggressive old fart in the universe and asking us to help him out?)
(Ain't no 'maybe' about it.)
Vogt: Mmm? Somethin' wrong?
No, nothing! Well, see ya!
Vogt: Suppose my years are starting to catch up to me...Only natural my back should start to give out. Hope I can find an apprentice for the lighthouse soon...Anyway, the manual's on the shelf. Give it a read, if you're interested!

Let's just try turning it off and on again. If that doesn't work, we'll buy a new one.

You've got four switches in this big jumble of dealywhats along the wall here. Set the Stabilizer and Orbal Amplitude to LOW, then set the Activation Switch to ON. Set the Stabilizer to MID, and then the Amplitude. Then set the Stabilizer and Amplitude to HIGH. Finally, set the Connection Quartz to ON.

*KTHUNK*

So, um, we can just leave it alone now, right?
Vogt: You can. It's in diagnostic mode. It'll stop on its own in a little while.
Okay, then!
Vogt: Still! I'm impressed. You managed to figure it out with nothin' more than the manual.
Haha...It wasn't easy, to be honest.

*KTHUNK*

Oh, hey!
Looks like it stopped...
Vogt: Yes, indeed. The diagnostic's fine, and there were no problems to report. It's been mighty neighborly of you to do all this for me. Sorry to put you through all this trouble.
No, it's fine!
Yeah, no need to thank us. Just make sure you take it easy on your back.
Vogt: No, no, no. I can't let you go without expressing a little bit of my gratitude! Here.

quote:

Received Polychaete x5. Received Shrimplet x5.
Oh...These are, um...
Vogt: Some bait for sea fishin'. You can land some real whoppers on the cliffs near the lighthouse. You should try, if you've got the time!
Aww, thanks!
Anyway, we should get moving along, but...

Did you need anything else?
Vogt: I've got all I need, little miss. However...it's good of you to ask. Very, very important. It shows that you have a heart that cares for others, as any modern bracer should. Just like the bracers of old...
Ahaha! Well, thanks!
Vogt: You make sure and remember that attitude, dear. Now, safe travels! Ah, you've done me a good turn again. Can't help but feel like I'm more an' more of a bother on you young folk these days...I really am startin' to get old, I suppose.

I'm not really equipped for any whopperlandings just yet.

The Krone Trail has tiny exploding egg things that can fuse into larger, tougher eggs, but they always spawn in perfect formation for a Comet and Draguna Edge.

Go down!

There are also some chests, hidden away with delightful spite.

-Border Patrol Isn't Easy-

Private Usher: Go ahead and get some rest. I bet you need it.

Hey, Serose. How's the border treatin' you? Haven't seen you since that incident with those monster mutts.
Oh, yeah, I remember that!
That was actually the first time we fought together with Agate, wasn't it?
Warrant Officer Serose: Haha, yes, they were a big help! So what brings you around here today?
Just stretchin' our legs a bit and gettin' back into form. Figured we'd come by.
Warrant Officer Serose: Ah, I see, a bit of bracer training. Well, since you came all the way out here, feel free to use the facilities to rest if you need to. You want to talk about monsters, the ones on the road lately have been ridiculous.
Thanks! We'll do that.
Warrant Officer Serose: I'll get back to work, then. If I can help with anything, just give the word. The post's watch is as severe as ever. We're surrounded by threats, after all. The Intelligence Division remnants are spread all over the country, for starters. As hard as it is to admit, we'll need the guild's help to bring them to justice.

Estelle's chaperon won't let her leave the region...

We got enough to be gettin' on with without heading to other regions. Let's focus on our work here in Ruan.

...but if you do find yourself near Krone Pass, the garrison is nice enough to let you heal up for no charge.

We don't need food or sleep. T͏̠H҉͉̺̫̘̼E̵̬̪̼͈̼͇͉ ̪̹̪̦͔̹͘ͅL̹͉̗̹̙IG͍̥̯̞̀H̙͉̣̮̕T ͖̥͚͖͟W̵̭͇̮I̮͈L̶̝͕͓L̶̥̫̱͇̼ SU͠S̲T҉͍͉̣A̡̫̤̳I̠͇̥̗̣̫N̶̞ ̷̝̹͔̳̫̬̼U̲̟͇̤͈̮S̨͖̹͉ͅ

Now let's get back to Ruan...I guess.

-Looking Up at the Sky-

All yours!

Eat hot arrow!

The Cobalt Sabers are manageable with just two, but I'd rather have the chance to put Kevin through his paces.

-Obstructive Existence-

Kevin's S-Craft is a defense, rather than an attack.

I hold in my hand the chalice of Heaven.

May its holiest of lights act as our shield...

Max Guard means immunity to one attack. At the full 200 CP, Grail Sphere can grant immunity to two attacks.

The Sabers have a pretty nasty bite, which can Poison. That seems to be all they do. The Silver Chain can come in handy.

Dark Matter is a lot better with a few ATS and EP increases.

The Sabers do have another ability called Death Throes. When one of them dies, it increases the stats of every other enemy on the field.

Except that they bunched up tight enough for a Chain Craft, so they all just get flattened instead.

Before you go, don't miss the shoebox tucked away in their little beach lair.

-Seaport City of Ruan-

Thanks, guys. Was nice of you to make sure I got back here safely.
Haha, aww, c'mon. You don't need to thank us.
Considering the detour, he probably shouldn't either.
Yeah, besides, like you really needed the help, anyway. That bowgun of yours is an antique...but you're pretty good with it, don't lie.
Wha...? Aw, nawww. A wandering priest spends a lot of time out in the wilderness, y'know. I gotta be able to defend myself somehow, but there's no way I could match a pro!
You really think so? I think you'd make a really good bracer, actually. You're really skilled.
Awww, Estelle, you're makin' me blush. You keep the flattery up and we might have to get...serious!
I thought we agreed to knock it off with the come-ons.
Haha! Anyway...
About this spook you're hunting. People have been coming to the local parish about it, too. But, ah, Father Theodore thinks we ain't dealin' with a normal spirit, here. Assuming it IS a 'spirit' at all.
Really? Why isn't it normal?
Well, the church likes to say that when people die, all the good little boys 'n girls join Aidios in the sky, right?
Right, and sinners are condemned to fall into the darkness of Gehenna. Sometimes, though, you get souls who...don't really fall into either camp.
That's what the church typically refers to as a 'ghost.'
Nnngaaaaaah...W-Wandering souls, ooooookay...
But then, I still don't get what makes OUR ghost not normal. If it's a wandering soul...
Welllll, they don't really 'wander.' According to doctrine, ghosts are usually bound to something. Could be a place, could be a person--point is, it's SOMETHING. The 'ghost' everyone's been reporting, though, doesn't seem to behave that way. It's got Father Theodore worried, I can tell you that much.
Now I get it. Yeah, that's...worrying.
Anyway, just something to keep in mind as you investigate.
Now, I gotta get to the parish! See ya, gang! Stay cool and spookless!

He still doesn't seem like much of a priest, though.
Ah, don't sweat it too much. The wanderers really are a buncha weirdos. The guy who used to come to Ravennue way back when was a real bowl of nuts, too.
Hmm, okay.
So anyway. We do still have some people we need to talk to. Let's continue our investigation!
After you.

I found the Laundry Pole+ first time I saw one of those Pandas as well. v:shobon:v

I'm probably one of many following along with this LP as I play the game itself, since my girlfriend recently gifted it to me. Absolutely adored FC and SC easily looks like it'll surpass my expectations.

Edit: oh hey update. Was a bit surprised/pleased to see the rest of the orphans got portraits too. Lots more people have them.

It's really just the Ravens and the orphans who got additional portraits, IIRC. Actually, they created a portrait for one more character:

It's Phyllis, the woman in charge of the kitchen at Le Locle. For some reason, however, they never implemented her art. Maybe they figured that Phyllis wasn't any more important to the plot than Robert...or Norman / Portos...or Anton and decided to just give her a unique sprite.

Anyway, it's a shame I didn't stumble onto this thread sooner. I'll definitely be following it. Cool to see you picked Agate. Since he was part of the roster during your time in Ruan and Zeiss in FC, he fits in slightly better.

quote:

As luck would have it, Rais dropped right before he could use whatever move he was charging up, and Estelle was able to swipe his CP bonus putting her just over the S-Craft threshold.

The move in question is called "No Mercy" and they already had it in FC. Basically, it does a crapload of damage and has a chance to inflict instant death. Not something you want to get hit by. Fortunately, you can impede it.

Rocco certainly has more guts than I expected, considering the fact that the last time he mouthed off to Agate, this happened:

I was totally prepared for it to happen again, but maybe the fact that they weren't trying to beat up a grade schooler this time put Agate in a good mood.

The meeting with lighthouse keeper Vogt made me smile, especially since the old fart gave you the right answers to that little conversation one game in advance.

I can't hate that particular hidden sidequest because the first thing I thought when I opened the world map to get my bearings was "I bet the cranky old man in the lighthouse has a sidequest for me".
You kinda need to have played FC to know that without a guide though.

Agate knows the turf better, but Schera knows Estelle better. The choice doesn't make a huge difference, but it's an interesting dynamic.

Graham, why does your crossbow have a flip-able sword attracted to it? The point of a crossbow is to attack from a distance.

The same is true for a rifle, yet they sometimes have bayonets attached to them. Same principle here.

What responsible, completely normal priest wouldn't attach a retractable sword to their crossbow anyway? Not that I ever really used that craft, all Kevin's CP tended to go into sacrificial arrow for me.

Anyway, Kevin's cool. Should... probably stop hitting on teenagers though.

Because he's seen how hosed other archers can be at point-blank range and decided to do something about it.

I'm not sure I like the sprite work in this game compared to FC. Still, so far this game is just as wonderfully enchanting as FC in terms of dialogue. :allears:

Cake Attack
Mar 26, 2010

nah there isn't sadly

basically the chest dialogue was added by xseed since the original game had some somewhat sloppy coding that stored each "chest is empty" message as it's own thing, even though they all were the same. so xseed could freely change each chest individually.

in SC though the coding is simpler and all chests just point to the same text string, so they can't be tweaked individually

It's kind of not? At least it doesn't come across in screenshots as the same sprite work.

I mean, they look similar, and the faces are largely the same, but the SC sprites seem a little less expressive to me so far. But that might just be because we haven't really seen a lot of action out of them yet, or it might be my eyes screwing with me.

There is SORT OF unique dialogue for the chests, but only depending on what's in the chest. At least that's what I've seen. So they probably did the best they could.
