I'm gettin kinda sick of lady heros who are spurred to do hero stuff by a history of sexual abuse. Seems like that's the case here? Like why can't the lady hero be all heroic because they killed her family or because she's just a hardass, like the man heros. The sexual trauma backstory is overused and honestly kind of gross.

it's funny because, ultimately, while a very traumatic experience, the rape doesn't actually inform who she is very much at all, and of course finally "being free" of her rapist earns her not a loving bit of closure but you'd know this if you watched the show

idk i dont really get a sense of who or what the character is before the rape, she works some jobs she hates and is a sandwich. jj isn't much of a character without her lovely attitude and drinking problem, which she gets from rapeman. that being said cliches aren't bad necessarily they just need to be handled cleverly, and having jj glory in her own magnificent indestructible anus is a novel way to approach a rape victim reclaiming and owning her sexuality

Instead of judging a dumb Netflix show on its own merits you have to immediately look at it through your own super tainted worldview lens (thus the raging about feminist archetypes and so on). Guess what homie no one in fiction is a real person. Only true masters of their craft can make a character that feels authentic and not essentially just an archetype going through a hero's journey. Just smoke a weed and eat a popcorn and realize it's a TV show based on a comic book; ie who cares what 'political message' it is (or you think it is) trying to send. The hot lady has super strength and the villain has mind control powers. Thus when people say 'you're in your 30s living at home working at a Wendy's' they mean it is obv that your opinions aren't clever critiques but rather an injection of your angry bitter views into a review of a TV show so when you go off talking about the feminists it's just  Sorry if that was harsh namaste
