Let's talk about rust and corrosion! I will begin with some photos of rust and corrosion.

The DoD Corrosion Policy and Oversight Office also has downloadable videos, some of which are said to feature LeVar Burton for some reason!

The Statue of Liberty was once suffering severe corrosion problems, you could learn about that:

Rust is a good habitat for Clostridium tetani but rust doesn't cause tetanus directly and you can easily get it from other objects that also have pitting etc. where the bacterium can hang out.

Scrubbers have greatly reduced the incidence of acid rain in the most severely impacted parts of the USA :toot:.

I think it's funny that rust and corrosion are caused by water and oxygen, because aliens probably would be like "They drink and breathe that stuff? Look what it does to metal! These things are monsters!"

One day, this team will play to their expectations...

Just not this year..

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 and it is rusting quite badly. Both rear fenders and the tailgate have significant patches of rust. In fact, one of the fenders has basically a hole in it from rust.

I also have a 2006 Dodge Charger RT and it is just starting to show signs of rust above the rear fenders.

I also live in a state that salts the roads heavily at the first sign of ice or snow for 6 months of the year. Are they rusty because they are 10+ year old Dodge vehicles or because of the salt or because of :science:??

fun fact: nickel silver's oxide conducts electricity almost as well as the pure base metal so it is used for applications where good conductivity is required despite a low-maintenance corrosive environment

Little did I know I just needed to zoom in more closely at the rust on my truck. It then becomes pretty to look at rather than an eyesore.

Seriously though the rust pictures look surprisingly nice with no other context.
