Anyone else think *party* is when Orz puts his *fingers* in our *bubbles* so we can be *together*?

That could explain the lack of bodies, among other things. Heck, it fits some of the lines the Orz have really well. If the Androsynth were somehow possessed or changed... That's possibly even more disturbing than them simply being eaten or eradicated or whatever.

Now Orz is *together*.

I'm not sure metal is the word there; the tensile strength of scrith is around the order of the strong nuclear force, that stuff is weird.

Also weirdly pointless, since you could just put it in sections and orbit it with no insane strength requirements.

Ah but if asteroids are a problem, surely building the habitat in orbiting sections would be the preferable design as well. That way when one platform is taken out by an asteroid strike the rest of the constellation is unaffected. In a rigid structure you risk progressive failure with any and every impact.

If it was just floating there it would still have to resist all of its parts accelerating towards the sun.

Ring world is so big it must be some sort of art installation or prestige project. There's no conceivable way to use that area. If the skyscraper index continues into the far future it makes sense the creators abandoned it immediately after construction.
