perhaps poverty could be reduced if more people became smart enough to realize they were too dumb to have kids clarification: I support voluntary eugenics brought on by state-sponsored education, not forced eugenics thanks for letting me share my thoughts

children are EVIL abominations that will suck your money and energy straight outta you theyre parasites that u give ur best years to, that you work ur rear end off every day to feed and clothe and raise and then they grow up and leave you and you realize that you're old and busted and you don't really feel that strongly about ur wife anymore and holy poo poo YOU'RE JUST SO OLD so you panic and buy a motorcycle to try and regain some semblance of youth and adventure and get involved in a car crash and die horribly

It's not a right to have children, it's a privilege. And people that abuse that privilege should be arrested and executed.

If you can't afford to take care of yourself working a minimum wage job perhaps you shouldn't then also have tons of kids then whine to the government to raise minimum wage and how unfair life is

If people really want to have children I think they should, but too many people just loving do it because it's some sort of imagined checkbox on the adult list. This, despite the fact that it now costs 250k on average to raise a kid for 18 years. If you're not rich, you very literally can't afford kids. (And it stands to mention if you took the cash you'd spend on two kids and invested in index funds for 18 years, you'd be goddamn loaded at the end.) Couples in their early 20s who have been together for a year or less go for it because reasons, despite not having their poo poo together. A kid changes the trajectory of the rest of your days irreversibly, and yet people absolutely ruin their lives because they think they're "supposed" to pop out kids before they're old enough to rent a car without a borderline usury surcharge.

Poetic Justice posted:Yet apparently minimum wage isn't enough? I kind of don't the average is just "how much did it cost to feed this kid" as opposed to "how much did you spend on the kid total, including toys, trips, private school, tutors, baby sitters, etc" which some parents are obviously going to spending a lot more on than others I mean yeah minimum wage is not livable I'm not denying that

Only wealthy people should have children. If you are poor, you can't provide a good life or good opportunities to the child, and are just asking for them to end up miserable, in prison, or dead.

Well you're gonna have a loving hard time of it since you'll be stuck in a lovely neighborhood, with a lovely school that doesn't give a flying gently caress about your kid, in a country that has barely any safety net for them

People that end up stuck in min wage jobs generally don't have the best life decision making abilities, and probably fundamentally shouldn't have children, is what I'm mostly saying. I'm sure they can be loving parents, but they don't have any success to share to their offspring, and it ends up regurgitating over and over and over.

If people truly want something bad enough, they will manage to find a way to get it. That includes learning, schooling, success, money, happiness. Anything you can imagine, no matter where you come from, if you care enough, you can get it. You can work for it. If you work a min wage job as a career you are comfortable and if you have children in that situation, you are also selfish.

So serious question, if this is the case: why aren't 50% of households with children, many of those with multiple children, struggling financially to an extent that they would be included as being below the poverty line or even close to it? I'm a gay liberal douche who thinks welfare is great but this isn't really adding up

The poor are a drain on society as a whole, they offer nothing. All they do is take take take and lower the common denominator. They beg, cheat steal and rob. Some rise above the rest and make something out of themselves, that is their choice. Even poor people have a choice in life. It might be hard, but they have a choice. Little Timmy goes out and robs houses to get money. Little Timmy two stays home and reads books and gets a scholarship. It's a choice.
