If you remove the parasites, a host can grow strong and prosperous. At one time women weren't paracites. They actually contributed a lot of critical stuff but nowadays with laundry machines and modern appliances for cooking, they really don't pull their own weight, so a smart guy will remove them from his life or limit his contact with them dramatically and stay out of legally binding contracts with them.
