I'm almost finished the series and I don't think I like it. I know a lot of people really like it because it's "progressive" but having actually watched it I don't think it actually is... I also think they're really trying to push the "If HBO did Arrested Development" thing, only with more Jewish stereotypes. The only parts that I think I've genuinely enjoyed have been the 1994 flashbacks, which were the "dramatic" part of the "Dramedy" Overall I think it's sort of like Sex and the City and Girls, in that it's hailed as this great show that really explores ignored parts of society typically ignored, but is actually sort of poo poo and exploitative. tldr: I'm bored and being a bitch lol

I totally hosed up by not mentioning that Dr Steve ( Jason Mantzoukas ) is the best part of this show Every scene he's in is awesome and belongs in a better show that I'd like to watch

i thought i would completely hate it because i care somewhere between zero and very little about trans stuff but i watched S1 with my wife and though it was pretty decent. for an amazon series mind you. the bar is much lower for their poo poo in my book.

i havent watched s2. i'll have to be really bored or possibly sick in bed to go through it. having that jew guy character who got molested/raped by his babysitter and now is obsessed with cumming in chicks during one-night-stands is like a page right of an HBO showrunner's playbook.

Season 2 has Ali flashing back to her Grandmother/ Grand Aunt who lived in Berlin in 1933 and is pretty HBO, as well as Wes Anderson  Everyone wants to be HBO now and there are a lot of shows that feel like HBO Bingo

^ seems kinda lynchian too. drat they cribbin hard i think it's just the trend in TV. the stakes are higher now in the supposed golden age of TV (that I'd say probably on the downward arc... if not for Fargo). if your show doesn't have some uniquely broken character in it it's boring as hell by modern standards. of course this was ushered in mostly by the likes of HBO because they were the only studio that would take risks on weirdo/quirky/sexual characters

I really didn't like it at all. Making every single character unlikeable is not enough to turn a melodrama into a black comedy. This show is even worse than Girls in that regard, at least Girls had a couple of funny moments. The only thing Transparent has going for it is the doctor, and he seems wildly out of place with the rest of the show, so you might as well watch The League instead, where he has a funnier character.
