It's been 2016 for 4.5ish hours so far and all I have to report is that as of yet there have been no serious catastrophes that I know of. More as this develops. For those that are late - This is a chat thread for anyone who reads AI. We talk about computers, life, how much alcohol we drink, how much pee Ricco will need to stockpile before he finally gets a decent job, where it's finally getting cold in the USA, STR amuses us with delivery driver stories, Mad Max fan fiction, cycling, pets.... just imagine this as one large garage and we are all pretending to work on some broken rear end Falcon Coupe while talking poo poo about anything that comes up. Anyone who is just wandering by, stop and say hello! We don't bite and we're a pretty chilled out bunch of normal people. I stole half of that paragraph from cat terrist / CAT INTERCEPTOR and I am not ashamed IN THE SLIGHTEST SHINE ON YOU CRAZY GOONS

Update: Time is passing at the usual rate. Something Awful appears to still be intact, though as the location of "the cloud" is a well-guarded secret, the exact point at which it will pass through the temporal barrier between 2015 and 2016 is unknown - we cannot assume that it has passed through unscathed for ~19 more hours. I have checked, and yes, turbochargers still work, as do subaru engines (sometimes). It appears that this is yet another mundane year change. Just the way we like it - stand down, men. -distant sound of high-strung engines shutting down as hundreds of war rigs are pushed back into their barns- IOwnCalculus posted:Eight hundred cash, that's a hell of a deal! From the last thread:kastein posted:Jesus gently caress, I can see at least one glaring issue with the strut bar design, too. It should have a cylindrical wall around it, or at least more gusseting, to spread the load from that vertical plate the bars weld to out into the horizontal flange that bolts to the strut towers. Not sure it'll be an issue in actual use, but that is the weak point. That's a problem, but I wouldn't trust the shop's rewelded strut towers to hold up, either.

Happy New Year's, fellow Goons! Since there are a bunch of tech/IT guys in here, and I know none in real life, I've got a question. My girlfriend bought me the Make Raspberry Pi Deluxe Starter Edition and an Arduino Uno/ARDX Starter Kit for Christmas, along with a soldering set. I have NO idea what the gently caress I'm doing with any of this, nor what cool projects I can even make. I have very little actual electrical knowledge, and the last time I tried to code I was 10 years old. I successfully hooked up the Pi and booted for the first time, and made an LED blink on the Arduino, but beyond that I'm lost. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do/a guide for getting started on a cool project?

Jack Plays Bass posted:Happy New Year's, fellow Goons! Raspis tend to be the most useful for things that need network connectivity, since they are a full fledged Linux computer with built in Ethernet (and easily added USB Wifi adapter). Maybe something like a networked sensor, or something that lets you open your garage door with your phone, or something like that. The Arduino is more limited in terms of computational power, but they're cheap and have a reasonable amount of I/O. I too have no project in mind for mine, but it can probably do any "a widget that does <a thing>" type projects that don't require communicating with another computer.

Why sure take the piece of poo poo ping pong table out of the basement and set it up in the living room 2 feet away from my gaming rig while I am taking a nap. First time a paddle smacks into my PC I am taking a sledge hammer to that table.
