^ can someone please explain that joke to me? Is there some consensus among rubes that Bowie has a lovely voice or something?

I love that Angie Bowie is locked in a Big Brother house. David had this all meticulously planned out in every detail!

I think I recognize the style from the bad political cartoons thread so he's probably some kind of right-wing rear end in a top hat that hates Bowie for being "queer."

I reverse GISed it and he's apparently the cartoonist from some paper in Arizona. So yeah, you're probably right.

Steve Benson is the political cartoonist for the Arizona Republic. Typically his cartoons attack the right-wing nutjobs that run rampant here. This cartoon was a surprise. Now I'm wondering if he was trying to say that while Bowie was of our time, his voice and music are timeless??

He probably could have phrased that better if that's the case. Like looking at it now I can see how that might be what he's saying, but it's really unclear. The lovely political cartoon drawing doesn't help either.

I don't think if that was his intention it makes much sense at all. So his voice and music weren't of our time but his acting and fashion trends were pretty late 20th century?

this absolutely rocks, specially since I love noise rock and the way it sounds with all the distortions is loving awesome. The distortions are not deliberate?

The song's name is Crystal Japan. It's an electronic instrumental, but it definitely doesn't sound THAT noisy. Glad you like it too

Edit: Ah, looks like a "proper" video was uploaded two years ago.

Anyone who thinks bowie couldn't sing has no loving idea about music. Bowie had an incredibly loud voice , and although his range wasnt particularly notable , it was still pretty good, a five octave baritone and always in key. And the dude had perfect intonation as only an englishman could. In short, the guy was one of the best male rock singers alive.

I think it's also important that you have to preen while singing them to get them to sound just right. I'm mean, that's what I do.

Black Gold!

Young Americans had both Luther Vandross and John Lennon as backup singers, and now they're dead.

Under Pressure was a duet with Freddie Mercury, and now he's dead.

Let's Dance had Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar, and now he's dead.

Now Bowie's dead. COINCIDENCE?!? probably.

To be fair if you're really into vocals it's a little hard to get into Bowie at first because most of his stuff they play on the radio is from before he figured out he had a diaphragm. One of my dream Bowie projects (that I have to give up on...) is studio re-recordings of a lot of his early stuff with his post-2000 voice. If he'd spent the next year just re-recording Man Who Sold the World/Hunky Dory/Ziggy I would've been over the moon.
