Date: January 12, 2016 Time: 9pm Eastern Here's the speech: https://medium.com/@WhiteHouse/president-obama-s-2016-state-of-the-union-address-7c06300f9726 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkuxFwjsdTw Why is my favorite TV show not on? The US Constitution, Article II, Section 3 states, "He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient". Obama is doing this, for the last time, Tuesday night at 9pm. Where can I watch this? Turn on a TV. Go to any news or network channel. But I don't even own a TV *clutches tote bag* You can watch the stream here: https://www.whitehouse.gov/sotu The PBS stream was great last year and featured crowd shots: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/updates/watch-live-2016-state-of-the-union/ In case the official one doesn't work for whatever reason, these ones usually do: http://www.livenewschat.eu/ http://www.stream2watch.co/live-tv/us/ http://www.hulkusc.com/ Who is giving the GOP response? Governor Nikki Haley of South Carolina. There will surely also be piles of responses from the GOP presidential candidates. Who is the designated survivor? Senate President Pro Tempore Orrin Hatch (R-UT). Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson is also not attending the speech. Washington only put down the whiskey rebellion, Lincoln only put down the southern rebellion and suspended habeas corpus, and FDR only ushered in a partial socialist utopia that's slowly been eroded over the last 30+ years. Obama, with the repealing of the second amendment shall subdue any further rebellions along with ushering in 1000 years of socialist utopia.

Seems like a perfect setup for Obama to crack a little joke about them together again on national TV, maybe give Biden an opening to noogie Ryan. Still, the one thing people can agree on about Obama is he delivers a pretty decent speech, we might as well enjoy one of his last big ones before his era passes. We'll miss the man when he's gone, at least considering his potential successors.

Jerusalem posted:I'm gonna miss this guy It is far too early to say definitively what Obama's lasting legacy will be as President (hell, it may still be too early for W.'s presidency to really be quantified)*, but... I do have to say, I admire both the ambition of what he tried to do and his patience and eternal calm in dealing with his arguably inevitable detractors. Gonna be a bittersweet night tonight. *Presidential legacies are funny things, and you often don't know until years after the fact (and certain documents get declassified) just how much of an impact some Presidencies did, or didn't, have on the nation. Take William Howard Taft, a President who was held at the time he lived as a poor President that couldn't measure up to his predecessor (who, I remind, was Teddy loving Roosevelt), but in retrospect, taking all of his accomplishments before, during, and after he served, reveal that he was actually not as bad at it as everyone thought.
