Fiona's not a slut, she's a young woman who never had a childhood grabbing some fun in a pretty loving harsh environment. Even Gus, although technically cheating, gets a pass from me because she never should have married him on an impulse. That was never, ever going to work out. How long can you sit and listen lovingly to your boyfriend softly play his guitar and make moon eyes at you before you want to just throw a vase and scream? The diner guy made more sense when the actor was Jeffrey Dean Morgan, remember that for one episode? He has that older guy, seen everything and survived kind of vibe but he's also super charismatic and sexy. This guy looks pretty beat up all the time and that's about it.

She talks about the irony of having her book thesis and talk destroyed by a gay Jesuit, so it's implied she knows him which makes sense as he's another academic in her field. Usually at conferences there are talks then a few minutes for questions. Academic rivalries can be pretty intense but it's incredibly rude to interrupt and derail someone's presentation. You wait until after they're finished and open the floor to questions from the audience, then bring out the knives. Edit: like it would be acceptable for a short question to clarify something, but you save the actual meaty questions for afterward. I think Kevin has been the funniest part of the season. Him asking Carl if a lot of the kids had to take it up the rear end to survive in the first episode. His obsession with the twins being tennis stars. His reaction to Yanis burning himself to death. Just good stuff. Not really digging any of the other storylines. Plus Debbie's story is just uncomfortable at this point.

To be fair, it's Shameless. At least personally uncomfortable storylines are the name of the game. The show is not at it's best, but ok Shameless is still better then nine out of ten shows in TV.

I found it a little odd that she didn't know about what seems to be a pretty key discovery in her field of study (and on a subject she's passionate enough about to be lecturing on) that invalidates a bunch of her theories. I was thinking they'd tie that back to her relationship with Lip starting to really affect her work, but I suppose there's still time to do that.

It was odd that she didn't know how to pronounce Simone de Beauvoir as well (not Boovoir). TV shows are not good at academia.

It seemed like the guy who interrupted said something to the effect of this journal having just been discovered like the day of or day before her presentation. I thought it was more about how New Media was supplanting peer-reviewed articles and how quickly new information can spread across social media and news sites. It wasn't like she missed some years-old or months-old article, it was something that happened basically the day of her presentation. It was showing the widening informational gap between the old and new generation.

Did I hear Debbie say she's 18? I got confused because each season seems to be half a year and when the show started she was in middle school or late elementary school.

Seems more like the simplistic "she's too caught up in Lip to pay attention to her work right" plot. Dr Christmas posted:Did I hear Debbie say she's 18? Still hating everything to do with Debbie. Her getting the sonogram was super uncomfortable with how low those pants were getting. Reminder she was still 15 for that. I'm guessing Fiona is headed towards having to keep the baby with her pushing it off. I can't even remember the name of her boyfriend anymore, I know Gus is the husband but can't remember the boyfriend, but he seems to be the best person for her that she's ever dated even though on paper he's by far the worst, especially with the murder reveal. She'll end up loving it up somehow probably but even though I want Jimmy Steve back I'd also like to see her stay with him the rest of the show. Carl's story and actor are killing it this season. His arc this season started out purely comedic but now it's starting to get some real depth behind it and I hope that's how it keeps going. For too long he was delegated to be the crazy background psycho that never really mattered. Lip's arc this season seems monotonous. Shame that crazy half Asian girl is gone this season, she was hot as gently caress. Ian being a firefighter/paramedic is the perfect job for him I think. As soon as last episode had him saving that woman I went yep, that's where you should be. gently caress Chuckie, his entire character is worthless and I can't believe they brought him back. I think Kev getting rid of Yannis means Fiona and the rest of them will move into Yannis' old house? I don't know how that's going to play out.

For those of you who watched the UK version, how similar are the shows this season? I was under the impression that US Shameless splintered off from what happened in the UK version a couple seasons ago. Is that true, or am I wrong?

At this point (really, I think by the fourth season) the UK version was barely about the Gallaghers at all, outside of Frank being a drunken pain in the rear end to everyone in sight. The UK version did a hard pivot and started focusing on a family called the Maguires, who were a feared crime family in the area. Timby fucked around with this message at 18:45 on Feb 4, 2016 |

I tried to watch a few minutes of the UK version and it felt like I was watching a telenovela version of the "real" Shameless. Completely different tonally, very flat cinematography and of course it was hard to get through some of the accents.

I actually kind of prefer the UK version despite its hideous cinematography, if only because while plenty of bad poo poo happens to people, it isn't just straight-up unrelenting misery porn.

I read some of the UK summary. Might as well be a different show past parts of Season 1. (Well it is but you get my drift). Timby posted:despite its hideous cinematography What is it with UK and cinematography? Either it's loving mindblowing (Most things by BBC, for example Peaky Blinders) or it is so goddamn lovely that I want to take a nap just by watching it for five minutes. I'm wondering if we're going to be witness to the professor spiraling out of control and possibly trying to do her husband in. Unfortunately, this probably means Lip is going to be at the center of this melt down. Hoping I'm wrong though and they just both decide to part ways and he gets back together with that Asian girl. She was awesome! Really want to see the next episode already; how the hell are the Gallaghers going to come out of this whole eviction mess?

She started living off campus and got a crazy lesbian roommate who became obsessed with her. She then started hiding out in Lip's dorm and found out he and Helene were together and she punched him. I think that's the last time we saw her.

I love how they made Amanda a turbo bitch to compensate and make Lip less of a bad guy for being vague and loving around on her. Just kidding. It seemed out of left field last season and seems too over the top for her even now. At least it forced that storyline to move forward some and has been amusing both times.
