"lol" is sort of a token gesture. I may "lol" when i think that something is fairly funny but doesnt warrant an audible laugh. A slight rush of air from the nostrils may be considered a "lol". I may also "lol" if i dont think its funny at all and im just humouring you. I reserve "haha" for things that i actually find funny. If you get an extra "ha" or 2, such as hahah or hahaha then boy have you really made me laugh! Im not some kind of dumbass retard so i dont say lmao or rotfl lol at this thread
