The best part is that all the Passats have their battery in that location. There's plenty of room elsewhere with other engines, but that's where it had to go for the W8 so that's where it has to be for the others. And of course you have to angle the drat thing to get it through the hole, always a lovely prospect with a plastic box full of sulfuric acid and lead ions.
