 Actually, in the LN, going after the important goblin and his bodyguard was in part to acquire the plate armor the bodyguard was wearing for Moguzo. Contrary to depiction in the artwork of both the show and LN Moguzo also still has starting equipment, which for warriors is chain mail. It's actually somewhat of a plot point in the fight, as the bodyguard is able to concentrate far more on the attack than Moguzo can, relying on the full body protection plate offers.
