Speaking of which, what do we think of this? http://motorcitymuckraker.com/2016/01/21/5-disturbing-revelations-from-gov-snyders-e-mails-about-flint-water-crisis/ quote:An e-mail obtained by Motor City Muckraker shows the deal would have saved the city $800 million over 30 years, which was 20% more inexpensive than switching to the Karegnondi Water Authority. quote:Curiously, he refused to release e-mails from 2013, which would have showed why state officials decided to make the switch from DWSD to the KWA. Now it seems clear why Snyder wouldn’t release the e-mails: They would have revealed that the switch was not about saving money.

Kremlin Kremlin posted:please expand The Flint city council, elected by the people of Flint, felt that they could save money by switching off of Detroit Water. They voted 7-1 in favor of the decision. They did this because the City of Detroit water department had been run by idiots for years, treated as a piggy bank to fund the rest of Detroit. The EFM and the governor allowed the decision of the Flint city council to stand because the Detroit Water Department kept raising rates to prices the people of Flint could not afford. The other choice, the EFM and governor not allowing the city council's vote to stand, would have been derided by the same people critiquing them now as "plantation politics". It is a losing situation for all parties involved, from both a political standpoint and a real life consequence one. It is a shame, because now the people of Flint will be even more retarded due to lead poisoning because of bad decisions made by crooked people like Kwame Kilpatric and Coleman Young that made clean drinking water unavailable. What's worse is there are still individuals in the area lauding those crooks who have hurt so many people.

Nevermind the lead, $200 a month in water is insane. I pay that per year and i use water as if it was free (It is actually ~$2 per cubic meter or 264 gallon). And that is water that is literally as clean or cleaner as bottled water. At $200 a month i'd probably get a trailer and go buy my water somewhere cheaper. Like hook up your trailer, drive to the nearest town that is not completely hosed and pay someone $50 to fill up with a thousand gallons or so. Maybe collect rainwater and buy a cheap reverse osmosis device.

the automotive industrial complex hosed up every inch of land it ever sat on here. the land paid the ultimate price for the automobile. i mean we pay... i mean the earth... fuckit the actual earth that comprises michigan hates cars and actively seeks revenge for the destruction of the landscape. roads melt like butter in the sun, and the water table in major industrial areas has turned to liquid vitriol. at this point im surprised that the flora and fauna havent pulled an australia and become toxic and hostile to mankind.

Yeah that guy is an idiot. The council was just a figurehead at that point. Earley, the first emergency city manager had the power, and he was appointed by Snyder for pure political reasons. I think some people that don't know the entire situation are being confused by there being TWO different emergency managers. The council only voted on this AFTER Earley had taken control. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/rick-snyder-flint_us_56a10daae4b076aadcc579b0?ir=Politics§ion=us_politics

Milwaukee had /has one of the best water filtration systems in the world because of cryptosperidium outbreaks back in the 90s. I'll drink that water through my filter any day. I'm in chicago now and not a fan of it to be hoesnt not a fan at all. I think sometimes I've sene brown water in my faucet. That worries me.
