It was a good season of TV. I'm not hating on the quality of the show, just the quality of its originality. let's see, we have... - Taking down the debt mega corporations own - Imaginary ghost friend(dad) - Reveal that he IS the ghost dad / in charge - Memory loss / warped memories of events - Drug problem = sleep problems - Can't stop a movement he started There are more connections worth mulling over. Those are just the obvious. They even play a piano cover of Where Is My Mind during the scene when he executes the code to bring it all down. (Starts at 1:55). https://vimeo.com/139343512

I really wish they hadn't ripped off Fight Club so much, the show was entertaining but started getting cringeworthy, especially with the Tyler Durden stuff and Where is My Mind. Still the most realistic "hacking" I've seen in a TV show/movie.

Yeah, it definitely has the most realistic depiction of hacking in media I've ever seen in my opinion as someone who has never hacked anything.

They were relatively accurate. The thing is there's just 100 other steps to the process they don't show. For example, they install a root kit on a server. That is a thing that definitely happens In the real world. But they never show you any real code, or a great deal of the steps that you need to do to accomplish that. They usually talk about things retro actively, because they are more often than not looking at the clues to a hack that happened. You can say "he installed a rootkit on one of our servers" and never show how someone would even do that, and still be accurate.

The first episode is really good and then it immediately turned to poo poo.

It was such a huge letdown when the time came for the hacker team to erase all debt with their ~code~ and the narrator decides to sleep in a car rather than show the audience what the gently caress went down. My favorite part about stories dealing disasters and upheaval is seeing the precise moment when poo poo hits the fan, but they always dance around that pivotal moment.

It's a Fight Club rip-off, but much worse, because it takes itself seriously.
