It's a 100 level class, they aren't going to care. They are almost always just wastes of time if you want to actually learn anything beyond wikipedia-level knowledge and are just meant to generate interest in a topic, which is open to interpretation. Besides, you can find garbage "courses" like this that are based 90% on opinion and 9.99% on incorrectly remembered/interpreted facts in any university regardless of what state it's in.

That said: did the lecture I listened to (the first one) even have a topic? Was the lesson of the day "all other cultures/races (except for Strong Black Women) are real hosed up"? also who in their right mind would not only admit to watching Tokyo Drift, but use it as source material for your description of japan

If you think this is a normal and acceptable 100 level college class you went to a really bad school. This crap isn't even acceptable as an inescapable liquor store hobo lecture.

Settle down class and listen up. Let me tell you all about what people thought and how they lived in ages gone by. Let me lift the veil of the ages, and gaze on in wonder.

Now, who has seen that great Johnny Depp movie, 'From Hell' ? From this we can tell that in that time period people used to **faaaaaarrrrrtttt**

lol that is loving bullshit, 100 level history courses are not 99% opinion and 1% bullshit, they're typically an expert in their field trying their best to do a solid overview of whatever broad swathes they're supposed to try and teach uninterested undergrad

they would care a lot in my department if a professor were behaving that way

Op you shouldn't let this opportunity go to waste - start acting really interested and genuinely curious in class.
Then innocently ask questions about bitcoin, definitely the gold standard, the civil war, antebellum economics. Also definitely work in ISIS, maybe try to tie it in with falling oil prices somehow.

Report back with new soundcloud once done, tia, voting 5.

This.
I used to think I got a substandard education because I went to a middling Canadian uni.

But compared to op's prof, the alcoholic ramblings of my history of modern philosophy prof deserve a pulitzer.

(Sorry op, I hope your other classes have competent instructors)

I don't have time to update this thread anymore but yesterday I recorded audio of my history teacher saying he wants to get rid of the department of education and :siren: slavery isn't that bad :siren:

if someone feels like editing an audio file a little bit I'll post it or you can post it or whatever. It's really bad and I basically walked out of class and forgot to go to my next class. He really just kind of goes off the rails. I sort of push him on topics after he starts bitching about people without ID cards being able to vote. He was also very happy that cam newton lost so if you're a broncos fan i guess theres that

Can you define some specific time periods.

Because otherwise it's easy to poke holes in this by saying completely true things like "South America was and remains just for landowners and generals, and blaming the internal problems of that continent on the CIA is a way of pretending that all the reasons those people held power were irrelevant somehow during the very brief reigns of people like Allende ".

This is really the first time I've opened my mouth in class which I'm not happy about but I'm finding it difficult to just sit through a class so full of opinion and anecdotes without participating. I'm not sure if I'm going to continue posting these recordings. The entirety of this class is just basically people turning into morons and arguing completely opposing view points and it just seems like a huge waste of time to even engage with someone who feels that way about civil war, but I'm doing it anyways and it's just all so stupid.

it's true at so many universities. i teach at an engineering focused school and we still have a massive amount of incoming freshman who take a course which is 10th grade algebra and even those who have to learn how to add fractions. totally mind boggling.

op i like these recordings but i am sad that you have to go through this :( have you decided if you're going to talk to the history admin or just leave it? i just can't imagine any admin being okay with the way this class is being run but idk how different the standard at a community college is (obv it's different but HOW different).

it depends really. the gen eds are real easy poo poo (history, english, calc) but generally major specific courses in stem fields are real classes.

I think I will just leave it, he's just a sad old man flailing in any direction possible. He bitches about the gold standard, welfare, social security, I mean he's probably a freep poster. There's only 7 people remaining in the class and like a poster said earlier I'm just going to do my best to get a good grade and leave an honest review of his class.
