Do people actually take those Myers Briggs tests seriously? I've talked to some friends who seem to believe the results carry some weight and also heard some employers using them while screening potential hires. I can't help but think of them as astrology for nerds.

Do you have any experience with the tests or people who swear by them? Seems like they have a cultist following. Just trying to get some insight, here.

I took the test, it was mostly on point

that being said you gotta be pretty autistic to identify yourself by the results or to care at all really

They're fairly popular in corporate land for some reason, although apparently the test is pretty shoddy in scientific/psychological terms.

Using it for any other purpose is kinda stupid.

MBTI is dumb as poo poo, Belbin is marginally better because it actually has some correlation to real life performance in a team and isn't touchy feely "this is who I am" bullshit.

it's pretty cool, regardless of what shaky claims they make about personality trait distribution, there's a quite stark difference between Ns and Ses that's pretty easy to notice/predict.

First big fight I had with my now wife was over one of these. She said she was something which I've since forgotten and wanted me to take the test. I said they were silly and written like horoscopes in that they paint broad strokes that it's easy to see yourself in. Anyway she was PISSED. We survived but you know heads up to all you young kids thinking about marriage you gotta watch out for those minefields.

Should've just taken it and chosen random answers then made fun of her for whatever she said about it afterwards, maybe bring the whole thing up at dinner every night for a week or two

I'd say it's better than astrology because it's not based on something completely arbitrary like birth date.
It's interesting for categorizing someone's overall personality but using the results as anything other than a topic of light conversation is pretty silly

I'm an ?NTP because I'm almost perfectly split down the middle of introvert/extrovert, lol

one time someone asked me if I wanted to take a personality test and I made fun of them for having the same introduction as a scientologist and it turns out they were talking about Myers Briggs

but yeah myers briggs is pretty much astrology/numerology yeah

There are 16 personalities, because 4. And 2.

I'm in a top-20 MBA program and every single student had to take a Keirsey test (basically the same thing) then discuss how it fits us and how we can use the knowledge to better ourselves and our interactions with others, It's been brought up in several classes as well and seems to be really heavily backed by career services.
