The old aircraft photo thread has gone to archives. Airshow season is coming up, and I know some of you fucks are plansespotters. Me, I just occasionally drive through Bossier City and occasionally see the remnants of the Mighty Eighth taking off on practice runs.   The good thing about suburban sprawl is that the takeoff/approach path from Barksdale AFB goes right over I-20, the above photos were taken from the passenger window off a car doing 60mph. The one time a BUFF came in on short final over the highway while I was passing through directly under it, I thought the car had exploded and so was too slow getting the camera out. A few weeks earlier, a bit south of casino town, probably civvie since this is apparently the junction for everything in/out of Texas and NOLA:

Please excuse the poo poo resolution, my copies are on a hard drive at the bottom of the pile of moving boxes, so I had to pirate them off smugmug: This was my wallpaper on the office computer.  This is from the time I used the big Nikon and my "PRESS" badge to avoid paying admission fee for the rained-out airshow off the clock.  The next day when I was on the clock and legit got a free pass, they did a badass thing.

I get to enjoy Farnborough International Airshow every two years, although new rules announced in the wake of the Shoreham crash of last summer might change what they can do. Most of what I do take tends to be uneventful plane-against-blue-sky like everybody else at the show, so it' more about enjoying being out with the camera than ever bothering to share what I take.

I have airplanes over my house   F-22 raptors fly over my house every day I went to an airshow   In Soviet USA, plane flies you, etc. I really do love going out on a nice bright day.

I went to the Aire75 show when I lived in Madrid. That was pretty rad. It was the 75th anniversary of the Spanish Air Force and they had a bunch of guest teams from other European air forces and some civilian display teams too. I'd never shot an airshow before and the only big zoom I had was an old Canon 100-300 f4.5-5.6 lens. It was a pretty dark day so it wasn't the best for getting nicely lit shots of fast moving objects. So air museum happened. I got to wander around a bunch of old Soviet warbirds which was ace. The weather was poo poo so I was literally the only person in the place which was also ace. The only bummer was that I tried shooting into the driving rain and snow towards the end of my visit and half the photos I took have spots all over the lens as a result. This was way cool though. Here's a bunch from the Key West show last week. Pretty darn cropped because my 50-150mm lens is way better than my 70-300mm, and as these are from my Facebook post I'm sure they're compressed to poo poo anyway.       Yes, it was like 85 out with no clouds so those people are using the plane for shade. Smart.

Visiting family in Jersey and made my way down to the dying city of Atlantic City to see their airshow. Thunderbirds had a maintenance issue which caused a 40 minute delay and after that they only ran with 5 planes, but it was still a good show! MV-22 USAF ThunderbirdsI'm on vacation still, so once I get back home I should go through some more photos and I'll post them here. Bonus: AHHHHHHH  Blackhawk
