Well, it was actually finished on the 30th or thereabouts, and Deep Thingummies only technically come from space, but... Slightly fitting for the theme this month for once? (An earlier part of the painting process is here, and the big version is on the dA page )

Finally finished this commission piece. Let's pretend it's in space somewhere on a planet w/ anthropomorphic food.  drat thing took way longer than I would've liked, but it's baller af. Now to do a bunch more pieces for a show at the end of the month

I do feel more comfortable with the figure, but I was really unsure of what to do with the skirts in my last sketches, so I'll concentrate on that in my practice. Yeah hair sucks rear end to paint. This v-day card will prob only be linework since I've got a show coming up and limited time, so I can knock it out super quick... Actually, gouache or water colors would be faster than colored pencils. We'll see how motivated I feel tomorrow.

I drew a star wars thing last week, I guess that counts as being on-topic for the thread. I don't usually draw fanart but there ya go. EDIT: Humboldt Squid I totally want an Arepa now, thanks for reminding me of foods I can't have anymore. I forgot how to paint. Oops. Relearning gouache. It's a bit sloppy since I kinda forgot what I was doing until halfway through. Edit: should've pushed my values. Edit 2: gouache is super cool and forgiving to work with. I finished a commission. Hooray!  I'm not 100% happy with bits of it (the left elf is a bit too masculine, the guy's hand is weird) but I am still pretty pleased with how it came out. (they are clearly spacegay)

The first sketch has serious perspective issues with the face. Giving it a medieval European era sort of quality. It's interesting from an art history perspective given her garb, but i highly doubt it was intentional. The face is drawn from a more or less frontal perspective, but her head is skewed to the side. They usually get a little weird or uncomfortable when they realize you're staring at them, but I have yet to experience a single person react negatively to me drawing them in public. The difficult thing with staring people in public is that they move around a lot.

Today's cat! I didn't think this one would work but it's come out really cute, I think. I also bought a hideous old 'photo-love' annual from 1982 and am going to try and redraw the strips for a challenge. Here is the start of the epic psychodrama, 'Dangerous Image'...   I'm drawing these straight onto the paper with ink, so some of it looks wonky as gently caress, but that is part of the fun for me.

There's a book I've been meaning to get, think it's called "Urban Sketching" and it's all about doing fast sketches in public places. I'm good with people but I suck at buildings and stuff so I've been meaning to sketch in public but I've always worried about people reacting strangely. I might have to suck it up, take a bus to Bellvue and hang out all day and sketch stuff.

I had one guy on a train in NY get in my face and tell me to mind my own business and that I should be ashamed of myself, but it wasn't the guy I was drawing- it was just some weird old man who didn't like me drawing other people.
