It's a group of people who are largely social outcasts and so they overcompensate in their tolerance for bad/weird behavior among their members. The forums for that comic I was referring to basically had their own versions of gbs, e/n, dnd, games, etc and the posters were about as ordinary as the other forums I read at the time (mostly wizards of the coast forums), but the community as a whole (from what I saw, I admittedly never really got involved in the fandom itself) just didn't like ostracizing anyone so they had their share of weirdos that I think most of the internet associates with them. Really the only exception I can think of (and this is kind of ironic because everyone seems to think the opposite) is there was no tolerance of actual bestiality or depictions thereof.

I don't like furries, they seem like sad hurt individuals trying to escape from reality. Like it would be cool if they were socially and financially successful, independent people who happened to be into furry art, but I guess being broken basement dweller is a prerequisite to finding participating appealing. I do enjoy their porn and it's been a good source of dirty talk to use in the bedroom, just have to censor references to fur and animal dick.
