lol so they go into the offseason with a massive hole at first base and a need to upgrade at third and possibly catcher and the only thing they do is release their starting 1B because he makes too much money, trade away their utility guy who could definitely start at either 3B or 1B because he makes too much money, and sign Doug Fister

Oh and trade away their backup catcher for cash

Woof

It'd be nice and I hope he does get called up and does well but they'll definitely play the service time game with him at the very least. If he struggles and Singleton continues to be disappointing it could be the Tyler White show or maybe even Valbuena at first with Marwin Gonzalez as the starting 3B which... oof

It's such a massive downer, Bird did well in limited time last year and I was excited to see what he would do. It looks more likely that the Yanks try to keep Teixeira for 2017 now, given that Bird is losing a year of development and all

James Paxton isn't fat anymore and says he'll pitch a full season!

quote:

The big left-hander arrived at Safeco Field on Saturday for FanFest weekend noticeably slimmer and free from the injury issues that have derailed his past two seasons.

On Thursday, Mariners’ trainer Rick Griffin mentioned that Paxton had lost 20 pounds over the offseason working out. It looked as though he may have lost more.

What do you call it when someone intentionally gains weight over the offseason instead of losing it?

The only example I can think of is Nick Franklin, who in one offseason had a 6000 calorie a day diet to bulk up from 160 to 190. He apparently asked for a bunch of Olive Garden gift cards so he could go eat the neverending pasta bowls.

One of the Mets mediocre middle infielders was instagramng swole pics the other day. Maybe Tejada?

Also Harvey seemed to thin out in his face a bit when he was on Bravo the other night. I am so ready for pitchers and catchers.

I seem to remember a lot of people getting really mad at the Yankees because A-Rod tried to be a good team player and do stuff like show up to ST early and the Yankees turned him away and were generally being dicks to him.

There were a bunch of, "I never thought I would see A-Rod as a sympathetic figure but here we are" articles. And then he cracked a billion dingers.

Severino and Bird were probably the highest points because "Holy poo poo not trading away prospects!" and "Wait the Yankees farm system produced guys who look like they can actually play again?!" was pretty great but Bird was gonna at least start the season in AAA this year, and we'll still get to see Luis in the rotation!
