What do you call it when someone intentionally gains weight over the offseason instead of losing it?

The only example I can think of is Nick Franklin, who in one offseason had a 6000 calorie a day diet to bulk up from 160 to 190. He apparently asked for a bunch of Olive Garden gift cards so he could go eat the neverending pasta bowls.

Also noted skinny kid Aaron Sanchez of the Blue Jays allegedly put on 25lbs this off season

The gainz!

I think I remember reading this last year, is it true the Blue Jays haven't been blacked out locally the last few years on mlb.tv? And is this expected to continue?

Yes it's true; I'm in Toronto and I watch all the Jays games on PC, Xbone or Android with no issues.

The first year I subscribed I read the FAQs first and was expecting to be blacked out and use a VPN, but much to my delight it has worked flawlessly the past two seasons.

Fingers crossed it stays this way.

Update on the WBC qualifiers:
You can stream all the games at http://www.worldbaseballclassic.com or MLB.com.
Some of them will also be on MLB Network.

The first two games are tonight.
South Africa vs. New Zealand at 9:00 PM eastern
Phillippines vs. Australia at 3:30 AM eastern

And most importantly, South Africa has added Gift Ngoepe to their roster.

Sweet. I will try to get a stream going for 9pm.

This really doesn't seem like a "Rogers" move.

It doesn't make much sense at all. As far as I can tell, Bruce is no better then Saunders and makes a poo poo tonne more money. Unless the Jays know that Saunders can't play full time with his bum knee, in which case why would anyone else want him?

Saunders would be going to the Angels, whose current plan A is a Craig Gentry/Daniel Nava platoon and they have the consensus worst farm system in baseball from which to pay for an upgrade. Gambling's about all they can do

I guess I can see a team gambling on a guy who might be broken, but if they Jays are giving up Saunders to get Bruce, he's almost certainly completely broken, no?

St. Dogbert posted:

The only thing I can think of is that Brook Jacoby was Bruce's hitting coach in Cincinnati, and he's convinced management that he can fix whatever's been wrong with him the past few years.

Even so, I don't see how an expensive reclamation project makes sense for the Jays. Maybe one of the other teams is eating the difference in salaries?

What? Hits hits Home Runs? Now I want him!

Source: Talks are on hold in the potential Jay Bruce deal. Players were agreed upon, but issue came up with a non-Bruce player's medicals.

FWIW, Bautista is denying that he's asking for 5/$150M

I think he asked for more.

The way I see it, Bautista could easily get a deal in the neighborhood of 5/125 as a FA. So if we're talking about a number that he gave the Blue Jays to keep him off the market, it must be more then $150 million.

Even at 36 years old, there is going to be a bidding war if he hits free agency, and I don't see him taking himself off the market unless he's signing a deal which is near the top of what he could possibly get as a FA.

I think Jose Bautista is definitely going to free agency. I'm sure the Jays have a number they are willing to go, and Jose will turn it down, so he'll get qualified at the end of the season.

Once he's on the market in October, we can find out what his value really is. If no team is willing to give him what he wants, he may return to Toronto, but I think that's extremely unlikely. There will be a bidding war, and I think that bidding will start at 4/100 and go up from there.
