Please do, it sounds like a doozy!

so annie jacobsen wrote a book, called Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Base. The main hook of this book is basically "hey we are going to give you a rational explanation to what is really going on at Area 51."

annie jacobsen went on NPR to talk about her book.

this is 46 minutes long, but its amazing. it starts out seemingly normal, and suddenly gets insane. you can tell the interviewer didn't exactly knew what she was getting into, and you can hear the stress in her voice once she realizes "i have to continue interviewing this person for another 20 minutes"

You sound like the crazy person, trying to impose a viewpoint on a stranger. If your point is so universal and easily verifiable then why do you need to go to such pains to convince other people? Sounds like you are trying to seek validity to your potential delusional line of thought, and if it's a particular neurosis surrounding that thought then you might have become obsessed with alleviating the pain of your rational mind trying to intervene by building up a pathological scheme to rationally override apparent facts to the contrary, and potentially forming rituals that involve imparting that mindset on others. Be careful with certainty, it may not exist philsophically, and everyone's viewpoint may have a glimmer of poetic truth to it whether based in reality or fantasy.

i like that line of thought in absurdism where it states hey you should accept that yeah this is all bs but bs is all we are all about so gently caress that noise

they usually come up with dumb explanations that don't hold water if you actually stop to think about it for a second but what really worries me is that i also know a guy in real life who believes the world is flat

is the percentage of people who believe the earth is flat going up somehow?

its kinda like fashion, you have the conspiracies that never really die but instead kinda go up and down in popularity in cyclical rounds and then the fads that never come back

Well then everyone could just live for 5 seconds and go "oh ok cool, got it" and go back to oblivion if there was just some big monolith of absolutism.

This is from page 1, but I suggest you all actually read that Area 51 book. Most of it is actual sane poo poo about what probably actually happened at Area 51 (testing experimental stealth technology that would later become the B-2 and what not), but then the last third of the book goes all in on the cold war Roswell russian children/midgets stuff. Although I'd believe that the Russians thought we were all panicky idiots due to us freaking out about War of the Worlds that one time and doing some crazy poo poo over it being actual aliens if I had to pick one crazy theory.

Also the new X Files referenced it for like a split second which was pretty cool
