Another vote for DoomRL if you're into roguelikes at all. The tileset makes it look super professional and the gameplay is great--it's not as visceral as Doom because it's turn-based, but the aesthetics and music and everything fit really well into that universe. It's free, too, so definitely worth checking out if you're at all interested. Oh gently caress yes, some dude's Doom Soundtrack Remix is on Spotify, awesome. That first mission track really is fantastic.

But for reals, Doom II reminds me of christmas time cause when I was in college I'd always play it for like a week when I came home for christmas break since I went to a CSU and all my friends went to UCs so our break schedule was different and I had nothign to do during the day and just started to play doom II isntead of like, a current game. Its a weird association

Whenever I smell Christmas-themed air freshener I think of RE4 because I really like that game and me and my roommate had Christmas-themed air freshener going when I finished it in like 2 sittings. DOOM is timeless. I still play it with the keyboard as Allah (PBUH) intended. There's a map editor called Doom Builder that's really fun and easy to use. Nothing like adding a cyberdemon to the first level!

Playing Demon Steele on the hardest mode is incredible, it's like Doom just entirely designed around using a sword. You have a small number of hit points but with iframes, you can also block projectiles and stagger enemies with the sword, all of this encourages you to be as aggressive as possible.
